OGBOURNE Downs’ new captains teed off their tenures at the club’s Captains’ Drive-In event New club captain Geoff Sparrow was joined by ladies skipper Shirley Soloman and seniors and juniors counterparts Tony Hales and Alex Tellwright at the event.
The team of Douglas Millington, Dave Fletcher, Sue Haydon and Anne Ferguson won the day’s competition with 109 stableford points.
They won the first prize of two fourballs at a Marriott venue and a polo shirt.
Second were Tom Heppell, Rich Thomas, Keith Lodge and Stuart Walker, just a point behind, while the quartet of Hazel Shewry, Stuart Shewry, Richard Sealey and Dave Watson were third with 106.
The outgoing club captain Peter Hayman raised more than £3,000 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, while Sparrow’s charity for the year is Headway.
- NORTH Wilts Golf Club is aiming to attract more youngsters to the sport with daily coaching sessions next month.
During the week of April 7-11, the Bishops Cannings club aims to get as many children as possible, aged six to 16, trying the game.
From the Monday to Thursday there are daily coaching sessions, finishing on the Friday with team games where children can win prizes and get a free snack and drink.
Two young golfers showing the most promise will win five months’ free junior membership.
The cost is £10 per child, with £5 for a brother or sister and a third child goes free.
