ALEX Pritchard has insisted his two award nominations are not just for him, but also for everyone associated with Swindon Town after he was given his big break by the Robins.

The pint-sized winger was named on the three-man shortlist for the Football League’s Young Player of the Year award on Monday and followed that up yesterday with a nomination for the League One Player of the Year gong.

Pritchard, who has scored seven goals for Town in what his first full season in professional football following his season-long loan from Spurs, is proud to have been nominated but was also quick to praise the role of the County Ground club following his double recognition.

“I just played my football, that’s all I do, I work for the team and luckily enough I’m in there,” he said.

“Whatever happens I won’t change anything and will just keep playing. This is good for me and hopefully something else good comes from it now.

“This club has been really good for me and I’ve played a load of games, working hard for the team and for the fans and hopefully something comes from it.

“This has been my first year of regular football, men’s football, and I knew what it would be like with people trying to get into me and rough me up. I’ve just got on with it because I knew myself I had to be strong because I would probably take a fair few hits, which I have. I like it, if they give it to me I give it back to them and that’s the best way.”

Pritchard is up against Derby’s Will Hughes and Leicester’s Liam Moore for the prestigious Football League Young Player award and the Town winger, playing a division below his two rivals, is honoured to be in mentioned in the same breath as the duo.

“I was at the England camp with Liam and he’s doing really well playing week in, week out for them and there are clubs sniffing for him,” he said. They are looking good to go up to the Prem.

“I don’t know Will Hughes but I think he’s only 18 or 19 and that says it all. He’s played loads of games and for a young guy that’s unbelievable.

“There are good players who have won it before but it is what it is, you either win or you don’t.”

Wolves midfielder Kevin McDonald and Brentford’s Adam Forshaw are the other two players competing for the League One prize.
