MEMBERS of Devizes Cricket Club’s youth academy used spin for a different to usual cause when they swapped their whites for cycling shorts.

They raised £978 for the Bag4Sport Foundation when they took part in a 24 hour spin-a-thon at Route2Fitness gym.

The youngest member of the squad was just six years old and one female entrant managed to cover 95.3 miles in four and a half hours to help the team travel a total of 698.8 kms to finish in third place overall.

This week the club presented Bag4Sport director Andy Trusler with a cheque for the money raised. Julie Stoner from the youth academy said: “We were very pleased to support Bag4Sport Foundation in its bid to help a number of worthwhile causes and grass root sport.”

The academy is also collecting cricket clothing and kit as part of a Bag4Sport Foundation initiative to help needy children in Gambia. Mr Trusler will travel to Gambia in April and is appealing for clubs, schools and businesses to make donations.
