SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper is hoping that his side can bring Wolves’ record-breaking run crashing to a halt at the County Ground tonight.

Kenny Jackett’s men have won their last eight matches, equalling a club record for the Molineux side, and currently reside proudly at the summit of League One.

And while Town’s performances of late have been below par, Cooper is hopeful that a clash with the division’s glamour boys could be just the incentive his players require to cause an upset.

“It (their run) has got to end somewhere,” Cooper said. “So why not us? We are good enough to (end it).

“If the fans get behind us it will be a cracking atmosphere and I’m sure that Wolves will travel in their numbers, it should be a good crowd.

“This is a big game for us, hopefully the bigger crowd and an evening game will lift the players.

“We said to the players in training this morning if they are not up for they could easily get embarrassed, because they are playing against a team that are absolutely flying.”

Despite suffering a 3-2 defeat in the Black Country earlier in the campaign, Town put in one of their better performances.

And while, neither side will resemble the line-ups that were out on the field at Molineux back in September, Cooper is keen for a similar display.

“In spells we played some lovely football,” he said. “But we have got to do it for longer.

“Tomorrow Wolves come to town and they are flying and we have got to do something that can put them out of their stride.

“We have to get a foothold in the game keep the ball of them and try and make it a difficult evening for them.”

However, if Town don’t make life difficult for Bakary Sako and company it has the makings of being a long evening for the County Ground outfit.

Cooper also knows that his side have to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to MK Dons despite Michael Smith firing Swindon into the lead.

“Obviously, we are disappointed from the weekend when we were 1-0 up at half-time, probably in control of the game and we should finish it off.

“That is something that we are trying to resolve, players get anxious, the fans are urging us to get forward and the players try and finish the game off every time we get the ball.

“We have to be little more patient because have got some very good players and we have to make sure that we are bang up for it otherwise we could get embarrassed.”
