LEADERS Wootton Bassett hit new heights as they romped to a 17-0 hammering of county neighbours Marlborough B in the Davis Wood League East Central One.

Kyle Barnes played a central role in proceedings, helping himself to six goals and adding five assists as his side ran riot.

Mark Turner, Matt Daniell and Jack Twine each scored hat-tricks, while Kristian Mansfield was also on target.

Devizes produced one of their best performances of the season to beat Westbury UB 4-0.

They broke the deadlock when a mazy dribble from Ollie Smith eliminated two defenders and he squared it for Josh Bond to tap home.

Devizes added a second shortly afterwards as Roger Edwards converted from a penalty corner.

The second period was also very even but Devizes held tight in defence and were clinical on the break.

Bond scored another from close range and Mike Greenman slotted home on the back post.

Chippenham had goals from Ben Pitman-Jones and Selwyn Widger to thank for a 2-1 win over Bristol University B.

Marlborough continued their run of positive results in Conference North – but their 3-3 draw with Bristol & West could have been so much better.

They took the lead in the first ten minutes following a short-corner strike from skipper Rich Holman and doubled it after a thunderous crash ball found a diving James Richardson at the back post.

With Marlborough temporarily down to 10 men through a sin-binning, Bristol & West took the opportunity to pull a goal back but striker Matt Way restored his side’s two-goal advantage.

Marlborough’s concentration slipped again before half time, allowing Bristol a second goal and the Wiltshire side were left devastated when their opponents equalised in the final ten minutes.

Milind Thapa and Nick Thomson both scored twice as Wootton Bassett B defeated West Wilts D 4-1 in East Central Two.

Confident visitors pick off berries

MARLBOROUGH edged close to the West Clubs League North Division title with a 5-1 win at Westberries 2.

The visitors made the most of an early mistake as Alex Crosby Jones finished and then added a second.

Marlborough continued to control possession with Rosie Curling slotting in a third goal before half time.

Westberries came out fighting in the second half, but Marlborough regained control and and their fourth goal was slotted in by Becky Hewlett.

Westberries responded, but Curling added another as her side stayed seven points clear.

Catherine Amore scored as Chippenham lost 3-1 to Bretforton in Premier Division 2A.

Chippenham’s second team were also beaten, 2-1 by Swindon 2 in Wessex Division One despite a strike from Ebony Trudgeon.

The third team were winners, however, Mary Derrick scoring twice in a 3-1 Wessex Division Two success over Frome 2 as Sunniva Petersen also netted.

In Wessex Division Three, Chippenham 4 beat Frome 3 3-0, Shauna Ford twice and Ariane Nunan on target.
