  • Aldridge's men beat Peterborough on Saturday night

7:58pm

That's about it from me up in Altrincham, then, ladies and gents. Thanks for joining me.

It'll be a new face in this chair next week, when Cats travel to Basingstoke and MK Lightning (Coventry), as Michael Reeves assumes responsibility for covering Ryan Aldridge's men.

Until the next time, goodnight.

7:54pm

Aku Pekkarinen is Wildcats' man of the match.

7:52pm

END OF THE THIRD PERIOD

Manchester Phoenix 4 Swindon Wildcats 3

Swindon were fantastic in the second and third periods and made the final minute dramatic with a late rally but it wasn't quite enough.

7:50pm

Manchester's turn to call a timeout.

7:49pm

GOAL! 4-3 (Nell, 59.04)

Amazingly the puck manages to creep in. Hoog was level with the goal when he fired that across and Nell touches in from very, very, very close range.

7:47pm

Cats pull their netminder.

7:46pm

Timeout called by Swindon.

7:45pm

Just two minutes left here.

7:45pm

CATS POWERPLAY

Kovar in the bin.

7:42pm

Hoog can't force the puck past Fone as Cats finish strongly.

7:40pm

GOAL! 4-2 (Nell, 55.29)

Another well crafted goal for Swindon as Watt finds Whitfield, who lays the puck on for the onrushing Nell to steer in.

7:36pm

GOAL! 4-1 (Bakrlik, 52.44)

Phoenix put themselves out of sight thanks to Bakrlik. The assist came from Kovar.

Kovar strikes a post and the puck ricochets to safety.

7:33pm

PHOENIX BACK TO FULL STRENGTH

7:31pm

Good burst forward from Nell but he's thwarted by Fone.

7:30pm

FOUR ON FOUR

Boothroyd gets his comeuppance.

7:29pm

Boothroyd has managed to get his stick around Hoog's neck like an angler hooking a large fish.

7:27pm

PHOENIX POWERPLAY

Sam Godfrey is in the bin.

7:27pm

Tempers fraying again here.

7:26pm

Psurny slides right around the net before shooting at Lyle.

7:24pm

Nell's slapshot is narrowly off-target.

7:22pm

Smith forces a save from Fone, up high to his right.

7:22pm

7:18pm

A fierce effort from Aku Pekkarinen from range is pawed away by Fone.

7:17pm

Schnabel's shot lodges itself in Lyle's midrift.

7:16pm

Easy save to his left for Lyle from Graham.

7:15pm

We're off again at Altrincham. Can Cats claw their way back?

7:14pm

And here come the Swindon Wildcats, accompanied by Benny Hill music. Is that derogatory?

7:13pm

Manchester Phoenix have returned to the ice.

7:11pm

As all you hockey fans will be well aware, I'm not usually the Adver man for the Wildcats, as I'm busy tracking Swindon Town around the country.

During the second period tonight an out of control child wouldn't stop slapping my laptop. That doesn't happen very often at the County Ground. New experiences are good for you, though, they say!

6:50pm

Hoog almost sprints the length of the ice to score but Fone gets down to cut off the import's shot.

6:49pm

Smart save from Fone to deny Nell, Kostal couldn't follow up.

6:47pm

PHOENIX POWERPLAY

Bullas is sent to the bin for elbowing. He tried to sneak off the ice but couldn't fool our sharp referees.

Big hit from Bullas on Kovar, could get him in trouble.

6:44pm

CATS BACK TO FULL STRENGTH

Good work from the visitors to kill that powerplay.

6:24pm

Phoenix are back on the ice.

6:21pm

Boothroyd and Sandvik will spend the first five minutes of the second period in the box, but as the penalties ofset it stays five on five.

YOUR SAY

6:17pm

The doctor has just been called to the away dressing room.

6:13pm

A quick shot of the fight that ended with Sandvik and Boothroyd in the bin to cool off. It's the two rolling around on the ice.

END OF THE FIRST PERIOD

Manchester Phoneix 3 Swindon Wildcats 0

A good start from the Cats was undone on the powerplay midway through the period and from then on Manchester took control.

6:08pm

TWO IN THE BIN

Luke Boothroyd and Sandvik both get 2+2 and a further two on top of that. We're playing again now.

6:07pm

Well, actually it's more like handbags at 10 paces between Sandvik and a Phoenix player.

6:05pm

PUNCHES

6:05pm

One minute remains in the first period

6:03pm

GOAL! 3-0 (Hand 17.58)

Manchester take two big bites of the cherry, with Bakrlík missing the second, before Hand thrashes home. Archer with the assist.

6:02pm

Ollie Betteridge's effort is saved by Fone.

6:02pm

CATS BACK TO FULL STRENGTH

6:02pm

Cats are opened up again by Richard Bentham, but he can only slap over the top. Now there's a melee in front of Lyle's goal. Not sure how the visitors survived that.

5:59pm

PHOENIX POWERPLAY

Floyd Taylor's gone and got himself sinbinned for tripping.

5:59pm

A stray pass from Jonas Hoog puts Hand in the clear but he can't beat Lyle.

5:57pm

Cat started this one well but they're being overwhelmed a bit right now. Real test of character for remaining minutes of the first period.

5:56pm

GOAL! 2-0 (Archer 12.14)

Not quite sure how he's done it but Archer has snuck it past Lyle. Assist from Tony Hand.

5:54pm

CATS BACK TO FULL STRENGTH

5:52pm

Now that's how you make the most of a powerplay.

5:50pm

PHOENIX POWERPLAY

5:49pm

Good chance for Lee Richardson but he slaps it wide.

5:47pm

Graham into the chest of Lyle, almost brought it down like a Brazilian footballer.

5:47pm

Lyle smothers from Robert Schnabel. The Cats man is by far the busier of the two netminders right now.

5:46pm

Managed to forget to do the officials, didn't I? Apologies.

Here you go:

Referees: Liptrott and Brown
Lines: Wells and Heatherington

5:44pm

Another save from the Lyle, this time from James Archer.

5:43pm

Stevie Lyle is the hero now, keeping out František Bakrlík (blimey, I'm going to have to cut and paste that one).

5:41pm

Good double save from Steve Fone to keep out Henri Sandvik and Aaron Nell.

5:39pm

Joe Graham goes in the bin for blocking.

5:38pm

Another great chance, this time for Henri Sandvik, who wants action taken when he falls when poised to shoot. Nothing coming.

5:36pm

Good early chance for Floyd Taylor goes begging for Cats.

5:34pm

We're off.

5:33pm

Anthem done. Game time.

5:31pm

Before we start this evening there's going to be a presentation from the Phoenix Supporters Club to the club itself - a cheque for £8,000. Pretty good going.

5:29pm

The Manchester roster is being announced to the baying home fans right now. They're a noisy lot.

5:20pm

But you just never know, this could be Wildcats' night, and you won't miss a penalty or a powerplay with Ice Hockey Live.

5:19pm

Phoenix currently lie second in the EPL, level on points with table-topping Basingstoke Bison and Swindon do not have a happy history at Altrincham.

5:18pm

After beating Peterborough Phantoms on penalties last night, Ryan Aldridge's men will be hoping to cause an upset at Manchester Phoenix.

5:15pm

Good evening ladies and gents and welcome to the ominously titled Altrincham Ice Dome for Swindon Wildcats' second outing of the weekend,
