5:05pm

Then pick up Monday's paper for a full round-up of today's action in The Result.

Town's next match is the home clash with MK Dons. We'll see you then.

5:04pm

Due to the set-up here at Crewe I'm afraid there won't be any reaction on Matchday Live today but pop back onto the Adver website later this evening to hear from Town manager Mark Cooper.

5:02pm

4:58pm

FULL-TIME

Crewe Alexandra 1 (Oliver 76) Swindon Town 1 (Harley 48)

In the end Swindon Town found themselves hanging on for a draw from a game they bossed for 70 minutes.

Ryan Harley's brilliant finish was cancelled out by Vadaine Oliver after Chuks Aneke missed a first-half penalty for the hosts. Town played well but couldn't find the goals they needed to take all three points.

4:55pm

Three minutes to be added to the game.

4:47pm

SWINDON SUBSTITUTION

George Barker replaces Ryan Harley, 83

4:42pm

Crewe Alexandra 1 (Oliver 76) Swindon Town 1

Crewe have been edging their way back into the game for some time and fully deserve their equaliser. Oliver's only just come off the bench and it's a cracking finish from 20 yards.

The home crowd are really behind their team now. It's going to be a tough final 15 minutes.

4:40pm

75 mins: Aneke hits the crossbar with a wonderful effort from 25 yards.

4:40pm

75 mins: Good save from Tyrell Belford to deny Aneke at close range.

4:38pm

CREWE SUBSTITUTION

Vadaine Oliver replaces Mathias Pogba, 74

4:36pm

Grant is back on his feet and play has resumed.

4:35pm

Grant is down needing attention for a head injury.

4:34pm

YELLOW CARD

David Tootle is booked for a trip on Louis Thompson.

4:31pm

After a long spell of Swindon pressure in the opening stages of the first half, Crewe are starting to battle their way back into the game.

4:25pm

CREWE SUBSTITUTION

Billy Waters replaces Byron Moore, 61

4:24pm

SWINDON SUBSTITUTION

Dany N'Guessan replaces Jacob Murphy, 59

4:22pm

57 mins: Smith snatches at his volley on the edge of the box and it dribbles wide.

4:21pm

56 mins: Luongo tries his luck from 30 yards. His luck's not in.

4:18pm

53 mins: So close to a second for Town. Luongo wins possession on the edge of the box, bursts into the area and curls over, his shot brushing the top of the net.

4:14pm

50 mins: Anthony Grant's shot is sliced high and wide from 25 yards.

4:13pm

Crewe Alexandra 0 Swindon Town 1 (Harley 48)

This is a stunner. Byrne runs around half the Crewe team before laying the ball back for Harely who hits it first time, left-footed from 18 yards, and it almost takes the net off.

4:09pm

And we're off again at Gresty Road.

4:08pm

The two teams are out at Gresty Road for the second half.

4:03pm

LEAGUE ONE HALF-TIMES

Bradford 2 Stevenage 1; Bristol City 1 Gillingham 0; Carlisle 0 Brentford 0; Crawley 0 Peterborough 0; Crewe 0 Swindon 0; Leyton Orient 1 Colchester 0; MK Dons 0 Sheffield Utd 1; Preston 2 Walsall 1; Rotherham 4 Notts County 0; Tranmere 1 Oldham 1; Wolves 0 Port Vale 0

3:53pm

HALF-TIME

Crewe Alexandra 0 Swindon Town 0

Well, Swindon dominated that half from first whistle til last but had to thank their lucky stars they weren't going into the break behind after Chuks Aneke missed a 43rd-minute penalty.

Town were fluent for the first half-hour, getting in behind their hosts at will and spurning terrific chances through Nathan Thompson and Michael Smith. Hopefully that profligacy won't have cost them.

3:50pm

One minute of added time at the end of the first half.

3:49pm

MISSED PENALTY

43 mins: Aneke skies his spot-kick over the crossbar. Awful, awful penalty.

3:48pm

Harley put in a sliding block to prevent a cross and it was adjudged to have caught a hand by the assistant referee.

3:48pm

Penalty to Crewe

3:43pm

It's all slowed down a bit in Town's midfield after an energetic start.

3:39pm

34 mins: Nathan Thompson drives wide from range.

3:37pm

33 mins: Harley curls wide from the edge of the box.

3:36pm

Swindon are comfortably the better side so far but they need to make their dominance count.

3:30pm

CREWE SUBSTITUTION

Cameron Park replaces Brad Inman, 25

3:29pm

Attendance here today is 4,433 (288 from Swindon).

3:29pm

23 mins: A great pass from Yaser Kasim plays in Nathan Thompson, who's caught in two minds whether to shoot or pass to Michael Smith, and in the end the ball dribbles out for goal-kick.

3:26pm

20 mins: A lovely pass from Murphy sets Byrne free in the box, his cross into the six-yard box is scrambled clear.

3:24pm

Town have settled into this game nicely. Crewe are allowing them that extra second on the ball and the Swindon midfield is ticking over better than it has done for some time.

3:22pm

17 mins: Ryan Harley's cross from the left wing is headed wide by Massimo Luongo.

3:20pm

14 mins: That's a cracking pass from Jacob Murphy to play in Michael Smith but he shoots at Crewe keeper Ben Garratt when one on one.

3:18pm

13 mins: Neat period of possession from Town ends with Byrne drilling wide from range.

3:16pm

11 mins: Nathan Byrne and Troy Archibald-Henville leave the ball to each other on the edge of the box, Chuks Aneke picks up on it and shoots wide.

3:14pm

Nothing of note to report so far, other than that a section of around 50 Town fans are in incredibly good voice.

3:10pm

It's a quiet start at Gresty Road as both teams try to figure each other out.

3:05pm

And we're off at Gresty Road, with Town in their changed blue and black strip.

3:01pm

Before we start, there'll be a minute's applause for Crewe photographer Pete Warburton, who tragically died last weekend.

2:59pm

The teams are out at Gresty Road. Kick-off is just moments away.

2:55pm

Five minutes to go until kick-off here. Swindon have brought around 250 fans with them this afternoon, not a bad effort at all given the team's away form this season and the length of the journey.

2:47pm

It's a lovely day at Gresty Road (don't worry, this was taken a couple of hours before kick-off, it's not that quiet)...

YOUR SAY

2:35pm Sat 1 Mar 14

carnegie says

Looks like the plan is to dominate possession and hope that Smith and Murphy can do something in the attacking third. Hope the confidence is there amongst the players as it has been clearly lacking in the last two games. You never know!

2:38pm

Jay McEveley, who's co-commentating on BBC Wiltshire this afternoon, has been talking about his injury.

He said: “I completed 90 minutes in the week it was just a bit sore. It’s not actually my knee, I’ve got a short bit of bone that’s rubbing and causing irritation and it needs shaving. We’re in the process of deciding what to do. If it does need shaving it will be a two week shout and then I’ll be back training and playing.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Jay doesn't need a medal

JAY MCEVELEY

“It’s a mixture of the manager, myself and the physio. I’ve been struggling with it for four or five weeks but it’s come to a point where it’s really sore and we’ve got to do something about it – whether it’s selective games or getting it shaved.

“I know once this bit of bone is removed or shaved there’ll be no problems because I’ve felt so strong this season. All through I’ve played Saturday-Tuesday and there have been no problems. It’s just this niggly thing that’s bothered me the last four or five weeks."

2:31pm

Jack Barthram is back on the bench this afternoon and the full-back is hopeful he's done enough to secure an extended stay at Swindon Town when his one-year initial contract with the Robins expires this summer.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Swindon Town's Jack Barthram in action last night

JACK BARTHRAM

“We haven’t really had much talk about it and we will just have to see what happens really,” he said.

“Hopefully I’ve done enough but I would like to play a bit more, although that’s the gaffer’s decision. He’s sees me in training though so I hope I’ve done enough.”

2:15pm

MAN IN THE MIDDLE

This afternoon's referee is Rob Lewis and he's something of an away win specialist.

Of the 16 games Lewis has officiated in this season, there have been seven away victories - a near 50 per cent hit rate. Let's hope he improves on that today.

The Shrewsbury whistleblower has issued 64 yellow cards and four reds in total his term.

2:12pm

Jay McEveley might be injured but he's still made the trip to Gresty Road as part of BBC Wiltshire's commentary team this afternoon. He speaks very eloquently about the game, so should be a good listen.

That said, don't all go abandoning me for Jay.

2:10pm

Swindon Town will be hoping to recreate the form which saw them thrash Crewe 5-0 in August when the sides meet this afternoon...

2:05pm

It looks like a 4-4-2 with a narrow midfield for Swindon Town this afternoon but, as we've come to expect this season, the shape and formation is almost irrelevant.

2:03pm

TEAM NEWS

We'll have official news in around 10 minutes but here's a quick breakdown of how the Swindon Town squad is shaping up ahead of this afternoon's game.

Jay McEveley misses out with a knee injury, Wes Foderingham's groin problem sees him left at home, Ryan Mason has an ankle knock, Grant Hall has not recovered from his calf tear, Nile Ranger is out for the season and Alex Pritchard not fit following a medial ligament strain.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Jay McEveley

INJURED: JAY MCEVELEY

Town welcome back Massimo Luongo after he was rested in midweek.

1:48pm

You can follow all the latest events from Crewe, right through the afternoon, right here on Matchday Live.

Sit back, try to relax, we've got it covered.

1:47pm

Nevertheless, with their League One play-off hopes dangling by a thread, Mark Cooper's men are all too aware of the importance of this game on the outcome of their season.

1:47pm

The Robins have not won here in more than a decade and have managed just a single goal in their last four visits.

1:46pm

Town are looking to end a run of four games without a win at Gresty Road but history dictates that it will not be an easy task.

1:45pm

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Gresty Road for the League One clash between Crewe Alexandra and Swindon Town.

Time for Cooper to give them a hair drier blast or kick a boot or two, around the dressing room. Sounds like after a bright start, they've gone back into hibernation, Cooper needs to show he can motivate these guys and get them playing how they started and add a little bit extra in the final third and get a goal or two.

I just hope he has not gone defensive and sits back for a 0-0 which is no good for either team. The away supporters that have once again turned out in force and deserve better. Come on Cooper show us you can actually change the outcome of this game and show something positive that we are there to get 3 point and not afraid of a team 5th from bottom.

P.S Rare occasion that Brizzie fan would like us to win

Having conceded a penalty zero to hero keep it going my boy and do a Mason on them.

In the end Swindon Town found themselves hanging on for a draw from a game they bossed for 70 minutes.

Looking forward to hearing comments from the fans that were there, but it sounds like we went back into our shell and invited them to pummel us and hope we could keep them out. When will Cooper learn the best form of defence is attack. Also looking foe=rward to hear what he has to say in his press conference as to why once again we let a 1-0 lead slip away.

I hope not also and i am hoping it was Crewe being better rather than us sitting back.

Shame we can't close games out to hold onto wins... Whenever we are winning with 20 minutes to go I never feel confident that we will hold on to the win. It was the same under Danny Wilson. Cheers 4ever, suppose one day we will make the most of the chances one day!
Have to say also as a plus the errors at the back seem to be dropping of late.
All those points dropped by poor defending is really going hurt us.
No problem. Apparently Troy had a solid game again today but after hearing thats he on a similiar routine to Ledly King at the moment you do question if hes on borrowed time especially with his contract up this summer. Not sure if power will be keen to keep an all ready high earner who is injury prone.

On the attacking side of things we really do miss Nile. Different class in this league. If all goes well with the trial i can imagine him being unstoppable for us with all the baggage left behind him. We'll see what happens...

I agree,if Troy is going to be a King then Power will really have to **** his contract.maybe offer a lower wage or pay as play (or available).

Well we should have been out of sight by half time totally dominant but not one shot on target. Strange game they took a pen that was like Luongo and Reis in the JPT. Came out all guns firing 2nd half with Luongo bossing the game MOM by a mile. Great strike by Harley and an even better one by them. Good showings today by Byrne, Kasim - couple of great cross field passes, TAH & Wardy solid at the back. Lucky not to go 2-1 down when they hit the bar. Our problem in not closing out games is largely because without Ranger we have a powder puff attack - smith hasn't got it & Murphy's not interested. They came back at us in the last 20 mins so a draw was probably a fair result.

Thanks for the report Jock, have a safe trip back as a few of us have said Ranger is a huge miss and there's no way we can replace him(unless Power got ~£2m to blow) QPR got a massive problem losing Charlie and it looks like it'll cost them auto promo? we had Wilma&Joan and they missed so many chances it cost us auto promo! so I would say Power needs to find a goal-scorer for next season or it will be a long hard struggle !!!!!!!!

They came back at us in the last 20 mins so a draw was probably a fair result.[/p][/quote]Thanks for the report Jock, have a safe trip back as a few of us have said Ranger is a huge miss and there's no way we can replace him(unless Power got ~£2m to blow) QPR got a massive problem losing Charlie and it looks like it'll cost them auto promo? we had Wilma&Joan and they missed so many chances it cost us auto promo! so I would say Power needs to find a goal-scorer for next season or it will be a long hard struggle !!!!!!!! the don69

Spot on Jock, I would go along with all of that. Best match I've seen Llongue play and the goal (in fact both goals to be fair) was awesome.

Smith showed a lot of willing but very little awareness. My biggest frustration in the first half was good build up and wing play leading to always cutting in field rather than getting to the by line. We did do that more at the beginning of the second half and looked far more dangerous.

Not another Port Vale unfortunately but an enjoyable afternoon's football and Town played well. Also delighted as this is the first match this season that my daughter has seen where we haven't lost!

So in a nutshell Malc, the same as many have said for most of the season so far, we're pretty toothless up front as goes finishing, and still can't close out games.
On the plus side good to hear that Ward and TAH have some sort of partnership maybe, but we are still giving away silly penalties.

Mid table or just above seems realistic then but we must sharpen up because the clubs are packed over a short span of points.

Decent result today in view of all the injuries. Any team that loses players like Ranger, Pritchard, Foderingham, McEverley etc etc would struggle. Yes may be we had all the play but goals win games and we have no strikers scoring since the loss of Ranger and even Ajose can be counted in that equation and whats left is either not good enough or too young. Lets hope we can nick Ajose at the end of the season and its looking like we will need another replacement for Ranger as the trial case is looking bad for him and can only see one outcome.

Totally agree with you about Smith, can't fault his work rate but his first touch often lets him down, and yep we continually tried cutting in instead of getting around the back and whipping the ball in. Smith at times was out wide and that meant there wasn't a height presence in the box when the ball did come in. But as you say a good performance and far better than against Crawley.

As the games and points are slipping away and there are some tough ones to come with an under strength side we surely have to accept that the playoffs are out of reach and securing L1 status (regardless we are currently 7th) must be the aim IMO.

Having had the boo boys on his back on Tue's you would have thought cooper would be full of praise for Belford . I have seen the goal and there is no way he was saving that. Remember that he is also young and learning his trade and has played far less than most of the others . A point at Crewe is not that bad as we have had better Swindon teams go there and come back with nothing. We need some big wins now to stay around the 8 spot against some good teams I .think we will finish in 14th place.

Are you really really really concerned about us securing our L1 status....gloom where no gloom really exists...

Look at the bottom clubs they have not even acheived 1 point per game for three quarters of the season.... do you really think they are all suddenly going to turn into world beaters and sweep everyone before them and win game after game after game....

I would agree play offs are unlikely, unless Peterborough or another club fall off the cliff and hardly win a game over the rest of the season....having seen what they have done over the same three quarters of a season, think it is highly , highly unlikely... but we can but hope.

Really?

I've been following the case and I would be shocked if he is found guilty!

Good showings today by Byrne, Kasim - couple of great cross field passes, TAH & Wardy solid at the back. Lucky not to go 2-1 down when they hit the bar. They came back at us in the last 20 mins so a draw was probably a fair result.

However - there are still another 10 or so teams down there who are not on anything like the form Sheff U are and will NOT leap frog us - they are still struggling to get about 1 point a game so are unlikely to even get to our 47!

I'm certain we will be top 10 - which considering everything that has gone on will be a great season

I think Yeovil are doing ok,with their very low budget and small gates their making a very good fist of it,they got a great point at Reading and played some of the second half with only 8 men yesterday.they might just survive London you never know.

.Sheffield still have all the top 7 teams in the league to play yet ...to win all of those would take a MASSIVE effort on their part especially on top of the cup exploits..next season they may be "dangerous"...but then again they were supposed to be this year too and one of the favourites for promotion and are one the real under achievers alongside the Ashton gate mob ...

If we finish 8th realistically that will be a good season and recognised as such, although though some will find something to snipe about every week / day and still be oblivious to reality.

They may be a good team but different world in the Championship with big teams, big budgets, big grounds, big crowds, parachute payments etc.

My money would be on them getting relegated without a doubt.

Also think we would struggle massively too.

Have you seen Sheffield 2nd bottom 4 wins 12th with 2 games in hand.
No we won't go down we have a more chance being sucked in rather than getting in top six with not one forward in our team.
We need to be cautious
Nigel is a good manager, maybe not quite up to his dad's level, never the less he's done a good job turning it round at Utd.

Spot on Old town you only have to look at the clubs he left and see he left them in good shape. I met he once when he was watching Charlie Austin outside the CG he seemed a good laugh .
