MORE than 400 hardy competitors braved the wet and windy Pewsey and Milton hills on Sunday as they took on this year’s gruelling Terminator race.
A total of 439 runners pounded the ground in last weekend’s latest edition of the challenging 12.2 mile off-road race, organised by Pewsey Vale Running Club, who are celebrating their 25th anniversary.
Andrew Fisher was first over the line in 1:26:12 while Marlborough Running Club triumphed in the big team challenge, narrowly beating Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds on points.
Pewsey Vale RC events secretary Richard Pearce paid tribute to another successful Terminator.
“We’d had a lot of rain and it made it even muddier than we’re used to. At one point where the competitors have to go through a river, it was three foot deep,” he said.
“But there were no accidents or problems – the weather itself was actually quite kind to us on the day, apart from the blustery wind.
“Because we go through a lot of private land, we have to sometimes change the course and the race has got longer as the years have gone by.
“We had good numbers again though. People enjoy doing it because it’s different to a road race, where there’s sometimes so much traffic to deal with.”
