AT THE fourth time of asking both of the delayed Wiltshire Junior Cup quarter-final ties featuring Trowbridge & District League sides beat the weather with the outcome bringing heartache for Freshford United and joy for White Horse.

Swindon & Trowbridge League heavyweights Fratello’s and Freshford United met at Sevenfields in Penhill looking to book their place in the semi-finals of this season’s Wiltshire Junior Cup.

Both teams went into the game top of their respective premier and first division tables and it was the home team who made it through to the last four thanks to a controversial last minute winner that gave them a 4-3 win.

Freshford found themselves one down but fought back to level through Chris Maskrey only to fall behind again, however the villagers got themselves back on level terms for a second time when Tom Rooney restored parity before half time.

After the break Freshford got their noses in front for the first time, Ricky Trott giving them a 3-2 lead.

It was Fratello’s turn to fight back an they responded well to square things up at three apiece.

With the game moments away from extra time the match referee ignored two strong appeals for fouls on Freshford players that led to the home team netting a hotly-disputed fourth that Freshford couldn’t comeback from and it is the cup favourites who will take their place in the semi-final line up where they will host White Horse.

White Horse FC 1 Old Town United 0

A GOAL on 10 minutes from Stuart Barber was enough to earn White Horse a 1-0 victory over Swindon League side Old Town United but it was the only thing worth talking about in a game that saw very little goalmouth action.
