SWINDON Town have “no choice” but to move on from penalty heartbreak in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy if they are to have any chance of reaching the League One play-offs.

That is the opinion of goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, who has stressed the importance of Town’s players getting their minds refocused quickly after being dumped out of the competition by Peterborough United in a dramatic shoot-out.

Though thoughts of what might have been may well be lingering around the Swindon camp, Foderingham recognises that, with so much work to be done to bridge the four-point gap separating Town from the top six places over the course of the final 15 games of the season, the Robins’ players must not stew over events at the County Ground on Monday night for too long.

“We have no choice, we have to get over this quickly because we still have a realistic chance of getting in the play-offs and a big game on Saturday,” he told the Advertiser.

“Hopefully this can spur us on into the play-offs.

“Orient is a good, tough, away game for us against a good side having a good season. We’ve had our difficulties in the past on the road but we seem to be getting better at that now and we need to bounce back.”

Foderingham saved a penalty in the shoot-out loss to Posh but couldn’t guide Town to a Wembley final. However, he believes the Robins were the better side over 180 minutes of the cup tie.

“In all the games we’ve played they’ve all been close and very tough. I felt we were the better side and although they won it on penalties we have to be positive because we were the better side,” he said.

“I thought we were the better side the last time we played too but you don’t always get what you deserve when you are the better side. You have to fight for everything if you want to get the result “We still have a chance of getting in the play-offs and they’re up there too and I’m sure they will stay there. Hopefully we can mount a good run and maybe get in there with them at the end of the season.

“If we play them again we would have to make sure we are prepared and concentrate the whole game because the minute you switch off they will punish you.”
