COLCHESTER United manager Joe Dunne has vowed not to use Swindon Town’s tactics against them when he brings the U’s to Wiltshire this evening.

Back in November, Swindon boss Mark Cooper used a 4-6-0 formation to maximum effect in Essex, with the Robins beating Colchester 2-1 thanks to goals from Nicky Ajose and Dany N’Guessan.

Though that strategy was particularly effective, Dunne does not get the urge to shut up shop and hit the home side on the counter attack.

“Swindon have got a lot of talented players. When they came to us earlier in the season, they played a certain way. They’ll think it worked, because they won the game,” he said.

“I probably wouldn’t expect the same approach tonight, though. I wouldn’t take my side there and do the same thing and I’m going there to win.

“They probably came to us to win too but I’m going there to attack. I’m not having all of this firepower not to use it and I’ll be asking my players to do something they’re not comfortable with.

“To bring the best out of my players, I’ll continue to ask them to do what they’re good at - why would I change? My focus between now and the end of the season is on us and I think that we can go there and cause them problems.

“We have potency in attack and we have options and back-up in attack. We’ll go there and try and win.”

Colchester lost 2-0 at Port Vale on Tuesday night, ending an unbeaten run of three which included victories over Carlisle United and Gillingham and a goalless draw with MK Dons.

“If you look at us over the last seven games, there’s been a real intensity going forward and a real ability to create. Even with the break, we created as many chances at Port Vale as we did against Gillingham and Carlisle,” said Dunne.

“All that was missing was the finishing touch because some of our approach play was very good.

“We will obviously be judged on the two goals we conceded but overall, I was pleased with the performance. We’ll be stronger for those 90 minutes and we’re ready to go.”
