SUE Cooke bidsto add to her impressive list of national indoor championship title successes in Hayling Island this weekend.

The North Wilts bowler has won a Fours title (2008), Pairs title (2010) and was a member of the club’s triumphant 2008 Yetton Trophy team competes in the final stages of the Champion of Champions competition.

Cooke, the section 29 and 30 inter-area champion, has reached the last 16 being staged at the Warner Lakeside Coastal Village and tomorrow faces Sharon Todd (Folkstone), the 23/24 inter-area champion, in the opening round (8pm) seeking a quarter final spot against either England internationals Julie Leake (Bournemouth) or Annalisa Bellamy (Spalding) on Saturday afternoon (4pm).

She is hoping her appearance at Hayling Island is the first of four in national championship events as she is through to the inter-area finals in the women’s pairs, fours and two wood triples – one or two steps from a host of national finals at Northampton in late March and Melton & District at the beginning of April.

Cooke and North Wilts colleague Alex Jacobs, winners of the national pairs crown in the 2009/10 season, won the Area 30 pairs final again for the third year in a row when beating Clevedon’s England U25 duo of Laura Holden and Stef Branfield 20-10.

They now face Carole Parsons and her partner from Donyatt (Ilminster, Somerset) on February 9 at Clarrie Dunbar in the inter-area final.

The trio of Cooke, Janet Hardie and Jacobs lost 20-6 to Thornbury led by Cynthia Winter-Alsop in the area 30 triples final.

However, the same three plus Val Molton won the Area 30 fours final comprehensively with a 22-12 victory over Thornbury led this time by Kath Sealey.

The quartet now have to travel to Taunton Deane for the inter-area final against Kirsty Hembrow’s rink – date still to be arranged.

Cooke and Jacobs plus Jean Collier are through to the inter-area final in the two wood triples following a comfortable Area 30 final 23-4 win over Sue Osborne’s trio from Bristol.

They have to go to Taunton Deane as well for this match on February 8 against a triple led by D Routley.

Meanwhile, Janet Hardie missed out in two Area 30 senior finals.

She lost to Ros Constant (Bristol) 21-6 in the Over 60 singles final then together with Jane Taylor, had to give second best to Constant again and her partner Sue Osborne in the Area 30 O60s pairs final.

Hardie and Taylor were 5-2 down at five ends and trailed 12-5 at 11 but then hit back to level 12-12 at 15 and were tied 16-16 at 18.

However, they then dropped a single and two twos on the last three ends to lose 21-16.
