Mantom expects tough Town test
5:30am Tuesday 28th January 2014 in Sport
SAM Mantom expects to come up against a more resilient Swindon Town side when he lines up for Walsall at the Banks’s Stadium tonight.
Mantom scored in the Saddlers’ 3-1 demolition of Town back in October, a game in which he felt Swindon were shell-shocked by Walsall’s ability on the ball and fluency in possession.
Ahead of the return fixture, however, and off the back of a weekend win over Shrewsbury Town, the midfielder is anticipating a steely performance from the Wiltshire outfit.
“It was a very good display down there and I managed to get a goal as well.I’m looking forward to it but hopefully we can take the game to them,” he said.
“I think they will come with a bit more grit and determination than earlier in the season.
“They know what we can do, they have probably watched the games since then and they will want us to get one over on us. They will want to beat us like we beat them.
“I don’t think they expected it. I don’t think many teams go to their ground and put one over on them like that but they are going to come with a lot determination and will want to play us off the park like we did them.
“We have to be ready for that and know that is going to happen.”
Defender Andy Butler, meanwhile, has highlighted Swindon’s weakness against the counter-attack - stating that Walsall plan to use the same gameplan on home turf that they did at the County Ground earlier in the season.
“We got them on the break I think quite a few times and maybe that is what they will try to do us but we know what we can do and hopefully we will come away with three points,” he said.
“It was a really good performance. We know what they are about, they are tough and have some really good players in the team so we won’t be taking them for granted.
“It’s up to us to show what we are capable of from now and try to cement this play-off spot. We are looking forward to the game and why not off the back of that performance?”
