Shrewsbury boss Jackson keen for his side to be Thrillers against Swindon Town

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Michael Jackson Michael Jackson

CARETAKER Michael Jackson will send his Shrewsbury side out to attack as he takes the reigns for the first time when his side take on Swindon this afternoon.

The former defender is in temporary charge following the resignation of Graham Turner earlier this week but has inherited a side sitting in the League One relegation zone.

The Shrophire side have only scored 26 goals so far this season and the new boss is keen to change that statistic as he bids to win the role full-time.

“Obviously I am not a new face, but I have a new way of doing things and hopefully we can influence the lads ahead of the game,” he said.

“I think we have to be more attacking. We need to start scoring more goals. At the moment we are probably waiting to get beat.

“I think we have got to try to cause teams another problem and make them think about us a little bit more, but with a discipline about us as well. Defensively we have also got to be right.”

Shrewsbury may begin the game sitting inside the League One relegation zone following a poor run of form, but Jackson is looking forward to the challenge and would not be dwelling on past results.

“I am looking forward to it. I think we have got to look forward to it and we have got to look to the future now,” he said.

“What’s happened in the past, everyone knows. It doesn’t need documenting by me. We have got to move on. You can’t dwell on things.”

Shrewsbury could be boosted by the return of midfielder Aaron Wildig, who missed last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Rotherham with a quad injury, but Jackson will be taking no chances with a player, who had only recently returned to action from a knee injury when was sidelined again.

He said: “There’s a slight chance he’ll be back, but what I don’t want to do is rush him. It is important that he is properly fit.”
