CHIPPENHAM Town manager Mark Collier is hoping to re-sign Swindon Town youngster Aaron Oakley on loan, as fellow defender Jack Allward nears a move away from the club.

19-year-old centre-half Oakley joined the Bluebirds on a month’s deal in December and thanks to the raft of postponements caused by the recent wet weather, made just three appearances for Collier’s men before his loan expired last week.

The Chippenham chief has been talking to Swindon this week as he attempts to secure Oakley for a further two months.

Meanwhile, Bluebirds full-back Allward could be set to follow Tom Knighton to Bridgwater Town.

The 27-year-old has had an extended spell on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder against Merthyr Town last November and has been discussing a move away from Hardenhuish Park with Bridgwater and his former side Paulton Rovers.

“Jack played the first few games but then got injured in that Merthyr game – since then I’ve brought in Pete Monks, who has done very well for me,” said Collier.

“Jon Beeden can also play in that position, as well as centre-back, and Jack’s found himself a little bit down the pecking order.

“I’ve told him that I’m happy for him to speak to other clubs and believe he’s been talking to Bridgwater and Paulton, with a view to sorting out a move in the coming days.”

Collier also revealed that utility man Caullm Wright is within touching distance of making his first Chippenham start.

The 19-year-old former Bristol City youngster joined the Bluebirds from Wootton Bassett Town last November and has made just two substitute appearances thus far.

The Chippenham chief said: “Callum’s been playing on Wednesdays for Bath Uni and he’s getting near match fitness – he’s definitely nearing a start.

“He can play in the centre of midfield, at right-back and at centre-back and utility players like him and Jon Beeden are important when you don’t have a huge squad.”

Chippenham host Weymouth in the Calor League Premier Division this weekend.
