SWINDON TOWN: Ferguson to ask Ajose for Swindon's secrets
PETERBOROUGH United manager Darren Ferguson will seek the advice of his Swindon Town mole, Nicky Ajose, ahead of his side’s trip to the County Ground tomorrow.
Ajose spent four months with Town, scoring 10 times in 21 appearances for the Robins over the course of the first half of the season, before being recalled by Posh on December 30.
This weekend the former Manchester United trainee will come up against players with whom he struck up a terrific understanding and great friendships during his brief stay in Wiltshire - and Ferguson wants to twist that to his side’s advantage.
“We are very thorough with our scouting of the opposition, but I’d be silly not to ask Nicky one or two things,” he said.
“He has a chance of playing, but I’ll settle on the team later.”
Ferguson is hopeful that victory at the County Ground will help his side rediscover the form they need to make a major impact on the League One promotion race after a four-game winless streak saw the London Road side slip 12 points behind the top two.
However, he knows that a tough test awaits in Wiltshire, where Town boast one of the best home records in the country.
“It’s a tough game tomorrow,” he said. “Swindon are a very good footballing side as they showed in the game at our place on the opening day of the season, but they will be even better now.
“We’ve slipped off the pace ourselves in recent weeks, but we just need one win to get our season back on track. We have shown in the past that we are capable of going on long winning runs and it’s now important to start one again.”
Posh have been boosted by the return from injury of midfielders Tommy Rowe and Danny Kearns.
Defender Craig Alcock is the only absentee because of injury as Peterborough kick off an exhausting run of nine games in 29 days.
“It’s a real boost to have Tommy and Danny back in the squad. They are both good midfielders with lots of energy, but whether or not I start with them is another matter.
“Tommy is a great player. He’s one of the best signings I’ve ever made.
“It’s a game we think we can win. The lads have been sharp in training, their commitment is outstanding.”
