SHELLEY Rudman's search for a first podium finish in the FIBT World Cup season continued as compatriot Lizzy Yarnold claimed her third victory of the season today.

2006 Winter Olympic silver medallist Rudman, from Pewsey, was ninth in Winterberg, slipping a place to third overall after five rounds as Yarnold cemented her position at the top of the 2013-14 rankings.

Reigning world champion Rudman was seventh fastest after an opening run of 59.46 as the series returned to Europe for the first time this season. However, a slower second run (59.73) slipped her two places as Yarnold, tied with American Noelle Pikus-Pace for first place after her first run, edged clear in the second to take victory.

Yarnold has finished on the podium in all five World Cup races this season and leads the overall standings on 1085 points – 225 ahead of Pikus-Pace.

Canadian Sarah Reid was third.
