MILES Storey is unsure whether to be nervous or excited as he prepares to return to Griffin Park on Boxing Day.

The teenager was the only Robins player to miss from the spot during their heartbreaking play-off semi-final shootout loss to Brentford in May, with the Bees ultimately losing out on promotion to Yeovil in the final at Wembley.

Storey, who scored Town’s dramatic winner against Coventry on Saturday, admitted the miss from 12 yards haunted him for much of the summer before drifting to the back of his mind as the new season progressed, but as he prepares to return to the scene of the crime he doesn’t know how he’ll feel.

“We all know what happened last year and to be the only player to miss in the shootout was heartbreaking for me,” he said.

“I’m kind of dreading going back there but at the same time I’m kind of looking forward to it too because although I have some bad memories there it can’t really get much worse.

“In the summer I couldn’t get it out of my head and even when I was on holiday and things I was always thinking about what happened, but as the season went on really you start to move on and put it to the back of your mind. It’s always there though.

“It’s still tough to take but the best players miss penalties and if I ever have to take one again I’m going to smash it so the keeper goes in with it as well, no fancy stuff.”

Having spent a spell on loan at Salisbury earlier in the season, Storey is now back at Town and is determined to force his way further into manager Mark Cooper’s plans.

“I spoke to the gaffer a couple of times and he’s been great with me and basically told me he thinks I can do a lot for the team, it’s just a matter of fitting into the gaffer’s style of play like some of the other guys do.

“I need to develop my game a little in that sense and hopefully be a little more involved.

“The gaffer has said we have 25 games left and if we win 15 we’re in the play-offs, then depending on what happens in the other 10 games we could even push for automatic promotion. A lot can happen with the squad we have.”
