BOWLS: North Wilts trio on course

THE TRIO of Sue Cooke, Janet Hardie and Alex Jacobs are still well on course to reach the final stages in several women’s national indoor championship events.

Cooke is already through to the last 16 of the Ladies National Champion of Champions competition at Warner Lakeside Hayling Island at the end of January, but also is still running in three other national competitions with Jacobs and two with Hardie while Hardie has an interest in five events.

Cook and Jacobs, winners of the national pairs crown in the 2009/10 season, are through to the Area 30 final again for the third year in a row - just two steps away from another appearance in the latter stages (last 16) of the pairs at Melton and District in early April.

In the area semi-finals on Sunday they edged home 20-19 against Bristol’s Ros Constant and Sue Osborne to set-up an area final ironically against North Wilts team mates Hardie and Jane Taylor or Stefanie Branfield and her partner who meet at Clevedon on December 29.

Twenty-four hours earlier Cooke, Hardie and Jacobs demolished a Clevedon trio skipped by Margaret Dyer 30-5 in the semi-finals to set-up an Area 30 triples final against Thornbury led by Cynthia Winter-Alsop.

While in the fours the same trio from North Wilts plus Val Molton are due to face Kim Smith’s foursome from Clarrie Dunbar in the Area 30 fours semi-final on January 4.

Cooke and Jacobs plus Jean Collier have reached the Area 30 final in the Over 50 Two Wood Triples and are due to meet Sue Osborne’s trio from Bristol on January 19.

Hardie, along with her commitments with Cooke and Jacobs in national triples and fours has reached the area final in two senior ladies events.

She beat Kath Walker (Clarrie Dunbar) 21-15 to book a place in the Area 30 Over 60 singles final against Ros Constant (Bristol) away on January 9 (10am).

And together with Jane Taylor beat North Wilts colleagues Irene Button and Jean Collier 23-18 and will now play Constant and Sue Osborne (Bristol) at home in the Area 30 O60s pairs final on January 15 (2pm).
