MARK Cooper rated Swindon Town’s victory over Coventry City on Saturday as the “best result” of his time in charge of the club.

The Swindon manager’s inspired substitutions changed the game at the County Ground, as Yaser Kasim and Miles Storey came off the bench to each score their first goal of the season to turn the match around after Leon Clarke had given the Sky Blues a 50th-minute lead.

Having made the conscious choice to open up the game by switching to a 3-5-2 formation in the final third of the contest, Cooper felt vindicated in his decision.

When asked by the Advertiser where the win ranks amongst others his side have managed this term, the Town boss said: “That’s the best. It’s just the fact we gambled and went all in and we still didn’t concede when we went all in – that’s the pleasing fact for me.

“Certain players took responsibility to organise when we were going forward.

“We had a few hairy moments and the goalkeeper made a couple of fantastic saves, but you have to try to do that when you’re trying to win a game.

“That’s the best result we’ve had I think.”

Storey’s 86th-minute winner propelled Town back into seventh place in the League One table at Christmas and Swindon are now just two points behind sixth-placed Rotherham United with trips to Brentford and Bradford to come over Christmas.

“We’re still right in it with games to play,” said Cooper. “Brentford have had an unbelievable result and they’re going to be a tough nut to crack on Boxing Day but I’m sure they’d have watched us today and will think we can cause them a few problems.”

Nathan Thompson missed the clash with Coventry due to a chest infection but he is expected to be fit for the visit to Brentford on Boxing Day.
