PREDICTIONS LEAGUE: JPT - Stevenage Results and Update Another amazing cup night under floodlights.

Town were denied a goal when Darren Ward’s header came down the wrong side of the goal line after striking the underside of the bar.

I was convinced it was in. In the ensuing melee Nicky Ajose was bundled into the goal which should have been a clear cut penalty. Nothing given.

All that in the first few minutes. Town went on to dominate the first half and should have gone in at the break with a commanding lead. As it was we had the settle for just the one goal by Nicky Ajose mid way through the half.

At the start of the second half, it was a case of how many were we going to put past Stevenage in the next 45 minutes. But Stevenage had other ideas. From the restart they pressed us hard and built some momentum. As good as we were first half, we were found wanting in many areas of the park. We needed a second goal. Stevenage were just pilled on the pressure and it was becoming more apparent that it was just a matter when, not if, they would score. With 10 minutes remaining the equaliser came.

The game was in the balance. Swindon pressed and Stevenage countered. We created more chances in the last 5 minutes than we did in the other 40 minutes of the second half. The closest chance falling to Yasir who saw his curing shot just glance the wrong side of the post. And that was that. The final whistle blew and it was penalties.

Stevenage’s first penalty was converted and Alex Pritchard levelled the score with a well struck spot kick. Two more poor penalties from Stevenage and 2 excellent ones from Town meant we were 3-1 up. Stevenage needed to score to force Town to go again. No need. A slightly better spot kick but a more impressive save from Belford meant that Swindon were through to the area final.
