SWINDON TOWN: Gladwin hopes to build on debut
ROOKIE Ben Gladwin is hoping to get the chance to build on his professional debut when Swindon travel to Sheffield United tomorrow.
The 21-year-old, recently signed from non-league side Marlow, came on as a 67th minute substitute in Town’s shootout victory over Stevenage on Tuesday night, showing a number of neat touches in the process.
The midfielder is likely to be amongst the Swindon substitutes for tomorrow’s trip to South Yorkshire and having adapted well to his new surroundings, with the help of his more experienced teammates, he would like nothing more than a league debut at Bramall Lane.
“All the players here have been really good to me and really welcoming and it’s great they’ve all been so good,” he said.
“I’ve got a fair bit of advice off the boys, in making sure everything I do is definite and in taking care of the football, and moving it at a high tempo.
“I spend a lot of time with the younger boys, the ones in and around my age, but the older, more experienced players have been great too.
“Wardy has given me some great advice and Ryan Harley has been brilliant too.
“When I get the chance I try and watch him (Harley) as much as possible because he’s superb on the ball and a really good player.
“Sheffield United is a big game but I have to work hard and make sure I’m in the squad, but it would be great to get on in a game like that.”
Gladwin also insisted he is not overly keen to go out on loan in a bid for regularly football and is more interested in earning a regular spot in the Town side.
“I spoke to the gaffer briefly and he said he wanted to get me some minutes on the pitch, which obviously happened on Tuesday night, but I want to be here.
“I want to try and break into the team, but that’s up to the gaffer to decide.”
