CHIPPENHAM TOWN: Bluebirds close in on former Swindon forward
CHIPPENHAM Town manager Mark Collier has confirmed that he is hoping to bolster his attacking options with the capture of former Swindon Town forward Lloyd Macklin.
The 22-year-old travelled with the Bluebirds to Corby Town last weekend and also took part in the pre-match warm-up before watching his potential new side draw 2-2 in Northamptonshire.
Collier has his fingers crossed that he can wrap up Macklin’s signing from Conference South Farnborough in the coming days.
“We’ve been talking to Lloyd and he’s shown a bit of commitment already by travelling down to Corby and taking part in the warm-up with the lads,” said the Chippenham chief.
“He’s got league experience with Swindon Town and Torquay United and we might even be able to get him signed in the next 24 hours.”
Macklin made 15 first team appearances for Swindon after coming through the County Ground youth system and also featured more than 20 times for Torquay United.
He was released by the League Two Gulls last summer and has most recently run out for Isthmian League outfit Cray Wanderers.
Meanwhile, Hardenhuish Park boss Collier was pleased with his side’s performance as they twice battled back to earn a point at Corby but admits that the Bluebirds could well have come away with a victory under their belt.
“I was very happy with the display because we played some football that was very pleasing on the eye and came away with a deserved point,” he said.
“Our first goal was a very good team goal and even after we equalised, we had chances to win the game - going away from home and being competitive is always pleasing.”
Iain Harvey is suspended for tomorrow night’s trip to struggling AFC Totton whilst fellow midfielder Rob Dean and striker Alan Griffin are both struggling with ankle and groin problems respectively.
Jon Beeden and Stuart Tovey are both in contention to return to Collier’s squad.
