CHIPPENHAM made it three wins in a row in the Davis Wood League Central One division as basement side Sidmouth & Ottery A were put to the sword 3-1 on Saturday.

An edgy start saw Chippenham have much of the early possession, Mark Knight missing an early chance but they finally broke the deadlock as Selwyn Widger broke clear and drew two men before finding Knight, who flicked home.

A second goal quickly arrived as Billy Whitaker and Luke Morris combined for Ben Pitman-Jones to send over a cross from which Simon Walker smashed home from close range.

Morris powered home a third in the second half after picking up a Sidmouth clearance before the visitors scored a consolation late on.

Devizes still lead the way in the section after maintaining their 100 per cent record away from home by beating Team Bath Buccs C 2-1.

Tom Alsop scored in each half for the visitors, with keeper John Rheinberg also in fine form.

Marlborough went down to a 2-0 defeat to Conference North leaders City of Bath, but the visitors put up a battling display.

The visitors’ early defensive work was resolute as they restricted City to constant aerial through balls.

Disaster struck as a momentary lapse of concentration led to a quickly-taken goal by City.

Marlborough had several chances to counter but were unable to supply the final ball.

In the second half, the Wiltshire side had City rocking with penetrating moves.

The home side, yet to drop a point in the league, finally put the game to bed two minutes from time after being awarded a penalty flick for a clear foul.

Chippenham B celebrated their first win of the season in East Central One as they edged Wootton Bassett A 4-3.

They went into a 2-0 lead as Chris Newton and Alex Bartlett struck, but the loss of Stuart Pattison to injury affected them and Bassett levelled at 2-2.

Newton won and scored a penalty flick to restore Chippenham’s advantage and, after Bassett had levelled again, scored the winner with a reverse-stick strike from a difficult angle.

Wootton Bassett still lead the way in the division after defeating Chippenham A 4-2.

Chippenham D drew 2-2 with Yate B in East Central Two, Joe Hayes and James Dallaway scoring, while Wootton Bassett B defeated Chippenham C 4-0 as Nick Thomson scored a hat-trick and Martyn Holmes the other.
