ATHLETICS: That was Nott a bad comeback
4:00pm Thursday 5th December 2013 in Sport
SIMON Nott burst back into action after a two-month absence with a terrific victory in the Bromham Pudding 10k road race on Sunday, writes KEVIN FAHEY.
Nott, 20, from Calne had not raced since September but if his rivals, including Avon Valley Runners’ in-form Mike Towler, thought he would be rusty they were mistaken as he surged clear to win by 29 seconds.
“I won the Bromham race in 2009 but didn’t do very well the year after that and hadn’t done it since so I really wanted to come back,” said Nott.
“It is a really well organised event with a tremendous atmosphere and lots of people out watching in Bromham so I am really pleased to win it again.
“I think the time is a course record as well, although the organisers couldn’t confirm that on the day.”
Nott had been concentrating on training and work at the University of Bath where is studying for a Sport & Exercise Science degree.
“I had been racing a lot this year so I felt I needed to have a break physically and mentally so after the Chippenham Half Marathon (in which he finished runner-up) I just took a rest from racing,” he added.
“Bromham was my first race back and I wasn’t sure how I would get on but that is a good boost to my confidence.
