SWINDON Town are not expected to be busy on transfer deadline day, with the club struggling to bring in new faces before the emergency loan window closes at 5pm this evening.

Manager Mark Cooper is keen to recruit a new central defender prior to the busy Christmas period, while a striker is also on the agenda.

However, County Ground sources have told the Advertiser that any deal looks unlikely due to the short timeframe available to complete a signing.

Yeovil’s Paddy Madden, who has recently been put on the transfer list, has been mentioned as a potential acquisition, but the Adver understands no contact has been made between Swindon and the Irish striker.

Regardless, Madden’s weekly wages of roughly £3,000 per week would test Town’s current budget with Robins at at the top end of their 60 per cent of turnover wage cap.

Yeovil are believed to want Madden’s wages paid in full, and a permanent switch in January part of the deal.

The Irish Independent yesterday reported that Sheffield United and Rotherham United were both interested in taking the forward on loan, while Swindon chairman Jed McCrory declined to comment when approached by the Advertiser.

Meanwhile, Cooper is expected to discover today whether or not he will be without Nathan Byrne for the matches against Carlisle United and Stevenage.

Byrne was dismissed by referee Andy D’Urso for two bookable offences during the goalless draw at Crawley Town on Tuesday night and faces a two-match ban.

However, the suspension could be repealed if D’Urso asks the Football Association to rescind the second yellow card he awarded to Byrne.

It is believed the Essex whistleblower informed the Town coaching staff after the clash that he would review the video of the game to see whether or not he had made a mistake.

Finally, documents have emerged on the Companies House website confirming Sangita Shah’s appointment as a director of Swindon Town.
