SWINDON TOWN: McCrory urges fans to support the Ladies
CHAIRMAN Jed McCrory has urged the Swindon Town fans to get behind the club’s ladies team for their FA Cup clash with Forest Green at the County Ground this weekend.
The Town ladies are in third qualifying round action against the Gloucestershire side on Sunday, with the game kicking-off at 1pm.
With the team flying high in the league McCrory has witnessed the ladies in action first hand and was impressed with what he saw, and would love nothing more than to see the club’s fans turn out to show their support on Sunday.
“I went to watch the ladies three weeks ago, and they won, but probably only had 18 or 20 people there to watch them play,” he said.
“They are a good team who get the ball down and play it around and play some nice stuff. They support the men and come to the home matches so it would be great to see the town supporting them too.
“There are a couple of young stars playing for Swindon ladies and I don’t think they get the credit they deserve.
“They really care about the club too and they want to be a part of the club which is great, and the way ladies football is going is really positive.
“If girls want to play football they should be able to play for their home town team so it’s important we support them in the same way as the men.”
McCrory also insisted the ladies team, which from this season have become part of the Football in the Community Trust, form a vital part of the club.
“Since I’ve been here people have started to see we are all in it together and that’s the way it should be,” he said.
“It’s great they are using the County Ground and it would be nice to see them have a great run in the cup.
“One of the first things I did when I came to Swindon was let the girls into the club and use the main pitch and it’s something I really believe in.”
Tickets for the game, which kicks-off at 1pm, cost £3 for adults with children admitted for free.
