SWINDON TOWN: Wes confident if Rooney is put on the spot
IF FORMER Swindon striker Adam Rooney is standing over a penalty for Oldham tomorrow Town keeper Wes Foderingham is confident he knows where he’s going to put it.
The County Ground side are set to go head-to-head with the Irishman at Boundary Park tomorrow afternoon and know exactly what he is capable of following after he found the net 10 times for the club last season.
Rooney scored Oldham’s winner from the spot on Saturday as the Latics beat Carlisle 1-0, but having faced the 25-year-old in training all through last season Foderingham is confident of which way he’s going to go if the two end up going head-to-head from 12 yards.
“Roons is a top bloke who always gives 100 per cent and is model professional, and he’s a threat as well so we will do well to keep him under wraps,” he said.
“He’s got a good penalty to be honest and he scored a few for us, but I kind of know where he likes to go so we will have to see if he wants to play mind games if he gets one.
“It won’t be fun if he takes one and scores, but if he gets a penalty and I make a save that would be great for us obviously.”
Foderingham, like the rest of the Town squad, is keen to put Tuesday night’s defeat at home to Walsall firmly behind him at the earliest opportunity.
“We weren’t happy with the way we played on Tuesday night and that wasn’t how we are used to it, and we need to be able to stay mentally strong and grind games out.
“We need to put it right, we’ve changed formation away from home and found a way to be more solid so hopefully we can do that again.”
