SWINDON TOWN: Walsall goals frustrate Foderingham
KEEPER Wes Foderingham is not used to conceding three goals in a game for Swindon Town.
The former Crystal Palace stopper pulled off a string of spectacular saves to earn himself the man of the match award in Tuesday night’s clash with Walsall, but still ended up on the losing side thanks to an Ashley Hemmings brace and one Craig Westcarr goal.
It was only the sixth occasion during his 111 Swindon appearances in which he has conceded three times, and only the third in league football, and although he was able to take some enjoyment from his busy night he was as frustrated as his teammates at the final whistle.
“I made a few decent saves and I’m happy with that, but I conceded three goals in a game which is something I’m not really used to so I’m not happy about that,” he said.
“I like to be able to come to the team’s aid when they need me and make saves, but this was a bit over the top because given how solid we usually are no team should be having that many shots against us.
“It’s good to be put in that situation and to make a few saves and it all helps you develop, but in the end it wasn’t enough and we still lost the game which is the most disappointing thing.
“They took their chances well and played pretty well to be honest, but if we keep giving away chances like that we will find it very difficult to win games.”
Tuesday’s defeat knocked Town out of the play-offs places and although Foderingham admitted he keeps a regular eye on the League One table the keeper insisted league positions mean little at this stage.
“I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I said we didn’t look at the table because we do, but it’s still too early to know who’s going to be up there and things like that,” he said.
“When we get after the Christmas period we will be able to tell a lot more because that’s when things start to hot up.”
