RUGBY: Marlborough 69 Melksham 2nd 10
3:30pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in Sport
MARLBOROUGH head coach Chris Budgen was welcomed back in fine style as his side romped to another maximum-points victory in Dorset & Wilts Two North.
Former Northampton and Exeter prop Budgen returned from a trip to Canada with the Army, as did prop Paul Roberts who featured.
The first try arrived when flanker Joe Mitchell broke down the centre, Nathan Morgan landing the first of seven conversions.
Nick Clarke then used his power to crash through and although Melksham responded with the first try Marlborough had conceded this season, Will Turner crossed to make it 19-5.
Blindside flanker Jonny Mantle scored from the back of the scrum to start the second-half scoring and then made another break to set up Clarke, who was tackled short before Mitchell ran through to touch down.
Skipper Jamie Pittams got in on the act from a maul to score before Turner scored again after good work from Mantle and full back Laurence Baker.
Morgan, who had moved to the centre, was next to score with a straight run and wing Hugh Sutcliffe then benefited from a lineout steal by second row Shaun Anderson.
Another good run from Mark Atkinson set up Mantle before centre Clarke ran in from 40 yards.
