SWINDON TOWN: Boss hails star man Pritchard
ALEX Pritchard’s stand-out display in Swindon Town’s 4-0 win at Rotherham drew special praise from Robins manager Mark Cooper.
Pritchard, on loan from Tottenham until the end of the season, scored a stunning free-kick to put Town ahead and played an instrumental role as Swindon secured their first victory away from home in League One this season.
Cooper lauded the diminutive midfielder after the game, saying: “Obviously that’s a piece of individual skill and we know that he’s got that in the locker, and he should do it more.
“He was back to something like we expect from Alex, today. He showed fantastic ability and what he’s about. He played with a smile on his face and I thought he was really, really good – as were the rest of the team.”
Cooper was pleased that his players took on board what he had to say before the game and ensured they did not fall a goal behind early on, as they had at Wolves, Shrewsbury, Peterborough and Preston earlier in the campaign.
“Teams obviously watch us and for 20 minutes we know they’re going to try to press the life out of us. When that energy dies sometimes they have a problem if we start to pass it,” he said.
“The main thing we said to the players was ‘after an hour can we still be in the game’ and we certainly were today.
“You never enjoy it. I’ve been involved in games where my team is losing 4-0 and comes back to draw 4-4 so you’re never, ever safe.”
