3:00pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in Sport
CHIPPENHAM maintained their unbeaten start to the West Clubs League Premier Division One campaign with a 2-1 win at Gloucester 2.
The visitors’ attacking intentions paid off early on as Rhiannon Roberts swept the ball across the D to a well-positioned Nicki Sparks to open the scoring on 10 minutes.
Gloucester responded with the equaliser, despite the efforts of defenders Julie Lodge, Tracy Davies and Sarah Humphreys Driven forward by the midfield of Kate Hughes and Sparks, with Roberts and Courtenay Gadd making speedy runs down the wings, Chippenham held sway after half time, Holly Honeywill-Sampson and Jane Lloyd testing the goalkeeper.
But the winner came from a break as Cath Amore and Natalie Motto combined to find Dani Spencer, who lifted the ball into the net.
Chippenham 4th were 7-2 winners over Knowle 2 in Wessex Division Three, Meg Hand scoring four times and Shauna Ford, Sara Eckersley and Elle Partington also on target.
Marlborough made a scintillating start to their North Division campaign by claiming a 3-1 win at home to county rivals Royal Wootton Bassett.
The home side were one up within the first 10 minutes from a short corner, which resulted in a fine shot from Helen Durrans on the post and into the net.
Marlborough continued to play good possession hockey for the remainder of the half and doubled their advantage when a strike into the D by Rosie Curling was finished by Kate Batty.
Bassett hit back through Vicky Sammon from a short corner after the break, Marlborough continued to attack and sealed their victory with another goal from Batty on the reverse.
