SWINDON TOWN: Cooper to wait on Mason
SWINDON Town will wait until Saturday morning until deciding whether or not to include Ryan Mason in their matchday squad at Deepdale.
Mason has missed the Robins’ last two matches with a thigh injury sustained in training last week but could figure against Preston North End.
The on-loan Tottenham midfielder will travel with the squad to Lancashire before being assessed in the hours before the game. Ryan Harley, however, remains absent with a knee problem.
“Ryan Mason will travel with us and that will be another late decision. Ryan Harley has no chance. We’ll assess Ryan Mason on Friday and Saturday,” said Swindon manager Mark Cooper.
“We have played two massive games and I think it’s important you do rotate players, keep them fresh and don’t risk people getting injured.
“The problem we’ve had is that most of the boys getting injuries are ones who came to us without a pre-season or came and joined the group late.
“That was always going to be the case. We spoke about it being a rush getting them in and we had to hit the ground with them in the team.”
Nile Ranger underwent a scan on a groin problem yesterday lunchtime, and is unlikely to feature.
“He’ll be coming with us to Preston and we probably won’t make any decision until Saturday,” said Cooper.
Alex Smith continues to miss out after an operation on his knee, Aaron Oakley is recovering from a broken foot, Mark Francis has medial ligament damage and is out for six weeks and Tijane Reis is no closer to a return.
The one major positive for Swindon is the return of Nathan Byrne from suspension.
