Cooper ready to take Flint out the game
MARK Cooper is telling his Swindon Town players to keep the ball on the floor and take Aden Flint out of the game when the defender returns to his former club with Bristol City tomorrow.
The Robins are well aware of Flint’s strengths, with the ex-Alfreton captain having made 79 appearances for the Wiltshire club after joining in January 2011.
The 24-year made the £350,000 switch to Ashton Gate over the summer but has endured a torrid start to the campaign.
City have kept just one clean sheet in the 10 games Flint has been a part of, conceding 18 goals in the process, and Sean O’Driscoll’s side arrive at the County Ground without a league win in six months.
Regardless of form, however, Cooper knows that Town’s forwards need to avoid being drawn into an aerial battle with Flint - who did not train on Thursday due to a stomach strain - if they are going to emerge victorious.
“If you put the ball on his head then he’s going to have a really good game, so we know that we have to do it a little bit differently and maybe not kick the ball high up in the air, which we tend not to do at the moment,” he told the Advertiser.
“When I came here he was a pleasure to work with. He’s a good professional, did very well in the play-offs, scored a good goal to get us back on level terms and when I joined the club he made it an easy transition for me.”
