Box Ladies' Top Ten winners are (l-r) Jane Taylor (res); Joan Warren; Janet Hardie; Karen Funnell; Sue Cooke; Alex Jacobs; Margaret Annetts (ladies president), Jean Collier, Molly Manning, Lolly Braddon, Carol Grenfell, Sue Dix
BOX Ladies dominance of the county women’s Top Ten competition continued as they won the title for the fourth year in a row.
The county south section winners brushed aside northern section winners Stratton Churchway in the final at Devizes last weekend, winning in all of the four disciplines - singles, pairs, triples and fours.
After the initial early exchanges Box were in command of the pairs, triples and fours matches with Alex Jacobs, Sue Cooke and Carol Grenfell respectively skipping their teams to comfortable wins.
The singles though was a much closer affair with Janet Hardie leading Wendy Anderson 8-2 at seven ends but trailing 18-12 at 17 before fighting back to win 21-19 on the 23rd end.
Earlier in the day, Box secretary Jean Collier, who played in the Top Ten in the triples discipline, won the BW ladies county champion of champions competition title for the first time.
In the final, Collier led defending title holder Linda Kingston (Highworth) 5-3 up at five ends but trailed 11-8 at 14. However, a fine run when winning five of the next six ends saw her move 19-12 clear at 20 ends and seal an excellent 21-13 success on the 23rd.
Chippenham’s Kara Little and her brother Oliver lost in the final of the BW Under 21 pairs to Westlecot’s Jake Webster and Michael Titcombe Junior going down 20-7.
And in the ladies county unbadged singles Devizes player Denise Howard came from 10-3 down at ten ends to only 12-10 at 17 but still lost her semi-final 14-11 to the eventual winner Julie Jones (Purton).
Top Ten (Box names first) Singles: Janet Hardie beat Wendy Anderson 21-19.
Pairs: Karen Funnell & Alex Jacobs beat Ellen Bolland & Janet Willis 21-14.
