THE VIC MORGAN COLUMN: Another magical night for Swindon Town
6:00am Thursday 29th August 2013 in Sport
WHAT is it about Swindon Town and cup competitions?
The club’s history is full of great moments from the knockout form of the game.
While most of the Town’s league career has been centred around the lower two divisions, the Robins have risen many times to the one off challenge.
From West Ham to Wigan and from Arsenal to the R’s, it’s often been the stuff of legend. Tuesday night’s victory over QPR is the kind of win that gives a fan such a massive boost and makes them able to hold their head just a little higher when saying who they support. To get one over on so-called superior opposition is always something to be proud of.
The feel good factor from Loftus Road will no doubt run on for a few days. By the time you read this we’ll know who awaits in the next round.
So there’s the anticipation for that match.
Closely following on from that is the home game against Crewe - a chance to give the team a resounding welcome at the County Ground after their storming of the capital.
For a few days at least then all seems well in Swindon Town’s world. As fans we know these moments are to be cherished as it’s what keeps us coming back through the dreary wet, cold days in an English winter.
Reality often kicks in of course, but for now let’s bask in the glory of a cup upset.
A night which made ‘Arry less that ‘appy. A night when our team was listed amongst those who caused a cup shock and put one over one of the bigger guys.
Great feeling isn’t it? Stick it in a bottle and sell that in the club shop, it would sell bucket loads.
