SWINDON TOWN: Allen keen to put on a show
GILLINGHAM boss Martin Allen is confident his side will ‘put on a good show’ when they travel to rivals Swindon tomorrow still searching for their first win of the season.
The Kent side are yet to taste success in 2013/14 after starting the new campaign with three defeats and a draw, and travel to Wiltshire 21st in the League One table.
Allen is aware of the rivalry which simmers between the two clubs following a host of bad tempered matches in the past, but believes his side will put that firmly to one side and do their best to take the win.
“I am well aware of the rivalry both on and off the field, and I’m sure we will do things the right way and do our best to win,” he said.
“Swindon is always a good place to go, and it’s always a good atmosphere and Swindon supporters always get behind their team.
“They were in the play-offs last year and that goes to show what another tough game it will be but we will put on a good show.”
The Gillingham boss also cast an envious eye at the amount of money Town have spent in the two years prior to this season.
“They spent a huge amount of money with Paolo Di Canio (last season) looking to get into the Championship,” he said.
“They won the League Two the year before, and spent an absolute fortune and nearly went up again last season.”
