SWINDON TOWN: Hatters confirm Benson interest
LUTON Town have confirmed their interest in Swindon Town striker Paul Benson.
The Advertiser revealed on Friday that the Hatters have been lining up a season-long loan swoop for the frontman, which would then become permanent in the summer.
Benson has not been handed a squad number at the County Ground for 2013/14 and Town are looking to offload the former Charlton man if the deal is right.
Luton are hoping they can persuade the Robins to send the 33-year-old to Kenilworth Road, with manager John Still admitting Benson is one of his active targets.
He told the Luton News: “There’s been an enquiry, but that’s the stage we’re at at the moment.
“We’re just waiting to hear from them.”
The Conference club’s managing director, Gary Sweet, added: “Yes, we have made enquiries but as ever the deal has to be right for all parties involved.”
Still plucked Benson from footballing obscurity when he signed him for Dagenham in the summer of 2005. Benson went on to score 82 goals for the Daggers before moving to The Valley and then to Wiltshire.
Meanwhile, Town are still waiting to make a formal approach for Millwall striker Dany N’Guessan.
Another target, Nile Ranger, is understood to have held talks with the club regarding a potential switch to the County Ground.
