Swindon Town have Premier League quartet lined up to sign
6:00am Friday 15th March 2013 in Sport By Sam Morshead
Town boss Kevin MacDonald
SWINDON Town have four players from Premier League clubs lined up to come in on loan as soon as the embargo hanging over the club is lifted.
The Advertiser understands three of the quartet, two of whom are believed to be Tottenham youngsters Dean Parrett and Cristian Ceballos, were ready to sign on with Town earlier this week only for the Football League to fail to allow the Robins flexibility in the transfer market once again.
However, it is understood that the deals for the four are more or less done and will kick into action very quickly after the embargo is removed.
The two other players in questioned remain unidentified but the Adver has learnt that one is a young midfielder and the other an experienced striker, both of whom are currently on the books of top-flight sides.
Swindon are also believed to be considering the possibility of a fifth signing, should they be free to do so, before the emergency loan window closes on March 28.
Senior figures within the club remain hopeful that the embargo will be lifted before the end of the week, after all the teams owed money via outstanding loan fees and transfer instalment payments were recompensed.
Meanwhile, the Adver understands Town are set to announce a deal with an overseas entertainment company which could see the County Ground host six sets of weekend concerts a year.
Artists such as Cheryl Cole and Tulisa are believed to have been lined up in an arrangement that could net the Robins several million pounds over the course of a decade.

They could probably sell out a few weekends with a 'festival' type angle and a load of 'acts' in that calibre but I can't see it making us millions. The old board would have considered this avenue and the new director who is involved in 'music' is as small fry as they come. Would love them to do this and make the club 1m a year but its not happening. Pipe dreams from this naive naive bunch.

With regard to the embargo, nothing new in the article really, and just a piece of de ja vu until news stating otherwise. It's really just an article that for all intents and purposes was said a week ago.

Have to say that I'm not sure how many will want to see Williams and Collins singing but Cheryl Cole and Tulisa up front for Town could be worth a laugh!
....
Still unsure how they're going to get 6 concerts run without ruining the pitch but any revenues have got to be good and whilst I've no idea why anyone would want to see Cheryl Cole on stage I'm sure they'd sell-out relatively quickly

Remember, we have been dumped on by the former owner and former manager in a very short time span. The timing of it all was mindblowingly ill judged, but we have what we have.
I think KM is doing a great job and needs time. Yes it could dent our promotion push, but the season is far from over.
LR - I do hope you are right and I have the same feeling that things will change once all the wrinkles are finally ironed out, but it takes time.
Avo - great post.
I feel that any extra revenue stream is welcome. May have been tried before, but lets not dismiss it out of hand as an instant failure.

Have to own up that it was me. Not because I necessarily believe it but from the impression I get when reading some of the posts :-(
Several Million pounds over the next decade should be what we are taking as a positive from this post. If it is a million a year it is equivalent of a quarter of this season's budget !!!!
Pitch should not be a problem, cover it for a day no problem. Anyone remember Live Aid, the Freddie Mercury tribute and various other concerts at the old Wembley ? No problems with that pitch.
Doesn't have to be to our taste musically, but would like to see Maiden or similar there, what is the problem they are not expecting fans to necessarily buy the tickets.
We could always look at pitch sharing with Bath RFC :-)

Personally I'm looking forward to going to some of these events without having to drive miles, sit in traffic jams for hours and pay extortionate amounts of money for drink and food. As for the pitch, these companies lay boarding on the pitch and it has no adverse effect on the pitch. So I think, like I say your concerns are really unfounded.

Install Adblock Plus on your browser. It stops 99% of anoying ads.
I've loaded this page completey "Ad Free". I've only got the "you might like" links at the end of the article.
Had adblock loaded for some years now, on IE, Firefox and Chrome.
You can get it here:-

Look at the Ricoh arena - regular gigs all full and they have Birmingham to compete with. This year Muse and Springsteen are playing.
Cannot understand why Jed is working hard to improve income and people winge. Very depressing.
The main this of course is it will start to put us on the map - get publicity and who knows but if a few gig goers come back to try the football its worth it for that.

But at least 'The Adver understands' is better than the use of passive voice, e.g. 'it is understood', which is nothing other than useless, lazy writing. I hate passive voice, where the subject receives the action in the verb. Better to use the active voice, where the subject performs the action, and hence the reader can focus on the subject.
Unfortunately the Adver likes the passive voice too.

STFC will contract very little risk here. A production company contracts to run the shows of an artist and they contract with STFC to provide a venue. STFC will be obliged to provide the venue (subject to obtaining a licence from the council) and most likely the hospitality staff and possibly security. STFC will either take a fixed fee for the venue and retain all revenue from hospitality (food and drink) or take a fee based on a percentage profit cut from ticket sales and rebate a percentage of hospitality profits to the production company.
The cost for STFC to obtain the licence from the council is minimal (legal and admin fees), its overheads for hospitality staff (and or security) are not likely to be significant either.
The production company will arrange for staging to be procured (most likely loaned) and set up and STFC will just have some project manager overseeing the exercise.
So other than use of the venue (which other than the licence cost is free to STFC ) and hospitality/security staff it has very little other direct cost, other than perhaps the project management team.
Its very much a win win for swindon, the issue is will it be profitable enough for other production companies to use swindon as a venue.
On the face of it and seeing the sucess of oasis as a music venue, no reason to suggest a slightly larger venue can't support music events in this area.
Pleased about the loan signings we need some fresh legs...onwards and upwards.

In modern times, the Ides of March is best known as the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BCE.
As Spider reminded us yesterday it coincided 44 year ago, that we put the Arsenal to the sword. Could this be an omen of the first full moon of the ancient calendar to mean we will indeed get the embargo lifted or will the weirwolves be howling and out in force looking for Jed.

I was at the match on Saturday in my usual disguise and wasn't too depressed by the general shape of the team but clearly there is a need for some fresh blood to spark things up - I continue to be impressed by Ferry and Foderingham - best get new players whose names begin with 'F' then?

That my friend is the most damaging thing the club can do and causes suspicion and too many issues to list on here but sending Grim to Reading is not good on your part. Opinions are all we are at the end of the day but many fans I know are fed up to the back teeth with the lack of information and embargo and lack of explanation about it. In such a time where fans will be renewing their season tickets and should be, but then there is this air of distrust and worry about the real state of the club and its finances. Surely Jed should be easing fans minds and reassuring them in this troubled period and not staying silent as all that does is breed over active minds with fear and worry.

Loan players take time to settle in as by definition they haven’t been playing regular first team football. Hollands perhaps was the exception but look at Martin, Bostock & Rooney. Everyone is looking for a striker who can score 1 in 2 games.

She was very shocked to be told to clear her trolley this evening, having been dismissed without notice. She was also asked to hand back all Swindon Town property and tea bags in particular.
The new Board posted a message on Twitter, saying that she was too old for the new and modern pop concert image at the County Ground, but thanked her for her service and have arranged fro Doris to have an interview at B&Q.
The Adver also understands that with Doris gone, her wages saved will be sufficient to get the embargo lifted, soon!!
