PEWSEY’S back line proved too hot to handle as they claimed a bonus point in Swindon to stay on course for a promotion play-off.

Injury-hit Vale fought hard to stand up to a strong home forward challenge and took the lead on three minutes as James Haynes pounced on a fumbled ball to run under the posts and add the conversion.

Swindon responded with a try from a driving maul and continued to enjoy the majority of possession, but a minute before half timescrum-half Gareth Stone broke clear and prop Tom Baish scored after a drive to the line, Haynes adding the extras.

From the second-half kick-off, fly-half Joe Tavaga and Haynes sent outside centre Ty Lewis scampering past the defence for another score and added his second 10 minutes later, both converted by Haynes.

Swindon rallied and with 20 minutes to go, rumbled over from a line out.

But with 10 minutes left, Pewsey flanker Tom Vodo broke tackles to romp in for another score, Swindon’s late replky proving just a consolation.
