RACING: Kauto to star at Lambourn Open Day

STEEPLECHASING great Kauto Star will be paraded at the Betfair Lambourn Open Day on Good Friday (March 29).
The two-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and five-time King George VI Chase winner is now in the care of Wiltshire eventer Laura Collett, who is based at the Membury Estate and recently paraded with him at Newbury.
Another highlight of the day is a performance by The Household Cavalry with their Musical Ride and soldiers from the Household Cavalry will also show off their jumping skills when they take on top jockeys including AP McCoy and John Francome in showjumping competition against the clock.
Other activities in the afternoon include schooling over fences and hurdles by top jockeys and a performance from Rockwood’s Dog Display.
In the morning, the Betfair Lambourn Open Day gives visitors the chance to explore behind the scenes of some of the top racing establishments in the country.
This includes the opportunity to visit the yard of twice-Champion trainer Nicky Henderson’s at Seven Barrows and to watch horses swimming in the equine pool at Windsor House Stables where Harry Dunlop trains. There is also the chance to visit the Equine Veterinary Hospital.
Yards and equine sites will open between 8.30am–1pm and events in the show ring run from 1-5pm.
The afternoon entertainment includes farrier displays, pony rides, children’s activities and a vast array of trade stands and food stalls, open from 10am.
Tickets cost £12 for the day and £6 after 1pm, whilst children under 12 go free. Money is raised for local charities, the Lambourn Valley Housing Trust and Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust. For further details go to www.lambourn.info.
