JASON Forster praised his players’ attitude as they put a sizeable dent in Weston’s National Three South West promotion prospects at Allington Field.

The Chippenham coach labelled his side’s 37-24 triumph as one the best of his tenure and paid tribute to his squad for not switching off now they are safely ensconsed in a mid-table position.

The former Wales international said: “It is what we have talked about – what we do now. We can take our foot off the gas or we can see how many points we can accumulate between now and the end of the season.

“It’s probably the best we’ve ever played, especially against a side who are going for promotion and certainly one of the top performances in my time here.

“The way the boys went out and performed does bode very well. It was a sterling effort against a side at the top of the table and it does show what can happen if you have a consistent level of performance.’’

Weston started well and took the lead 10 minutes in with a try from skipper Dave Burge, but that galvanised the home side and captain Bobby Lyons touched down for his 11th of the season.

With the pack providing plenty of ball, scrum-half Lewis Surry scored his 16th try of the campaign, Chris Hunt converting before Gary Champion drove through and Hunt added the extras, later kicking a penalty.

Prop Dave Swann responded for the visitors, Luke Blizzard converting, but they were 10 points adrift and after the break, leading try scorer Ryan Surry adding another to his total for Chippenham.

Chippenham continued to pressure the Weston pack, Hunt landing a further penalty and converted as Ryan Surry took his tally to 17 for the season.

Weston hit back with two late tries from Sam Smee, and Swann, one converted by Blizzard.
