SWINDON TOWN: Town confirms Watkin departure
10:12am Wednesday 6th March 2013 in Sport
Nick Watkins has left Swindon Town
SWINDON Town have confirmed that Nick Watkins has stepped down from his role as chief executive at the club.
Watkins is understood to have had his final official day at the County Ground on Friday but will remain available to the Robins' new owners until March 31 during transition.
In a statement on the club's official website, Watkins said: "I am relieved and delighted that the club has been able to secure new owners and I wish Jed McCrory and his team every ounce of success going forward.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed each single minute of my five years with the club and I shall remember my time here with great affection. I have been privileged to work with a great team of people, and I am proud that I can hand to the new owners, a Club that is in peak condition.
“To the STFC staff, sponsors, suppliers, and the fans, I would like to express my genuine and very sincere gratitude for your friendship and support. COYR."
Robins general manager Steve Murrall said in the same statement: “First of all on behalf of Jed and his team, I would like to thank Nick for his considerable efforts during his time with the club.
“As new owners we have inherited a great team on and off the pitch and that’s testament to Nick’s good work. We now look forward to building on those great foundations and taking the club forward towards the Championship.”

Nobody seems to stay in a job 5 minutes in football, especially STFC, the word loyalty does not exist, the grass is always greener on the other side, not like in real world where if you are employed you stick at it, and count yourself lucky, compared to the thousands out of work. The only true loyalty exists with the supporters who turn out week in week out, as for the rest its a me me me culture!!!!.
Moving on is often the best way to secure a promotion/pay increase and stops you going stale

For one we were saved yet again, for how long nobody knows.
I also fear if Shrewsbury are not paid the additional amount of 20K there will be an embargo yet again
That deal was done and Jed and his Crew should pay up.
I also doubt if we will see further loan additions.
Still at the end of the day we have a club in a good spot in the Division.
Yet I guess like many of you we get the feeling something quite aint right

I never new him personally but everyone seems to have a good word for Nick Watkins which is lovely to hear.
I am assuming his leaving is by mutual consent & one of our new board will take over the roll, thus reducing costs, all part of running a tighter ship, which makes sense.

AFCB4Life - you are some joker aren't you! I wish no ill will to Bournemouth as a club, the supporters I met when I was down there in January were top drawer and had a good giggle and a few beers with them, they weren't up themselves and brought no aggro. You are a wind up merchant and an embarrasment to your club. Also I didn't want to point out the irony of you asking who cares about this story, when you've gone out of your way to comment on it... but there we go.
As for Nick Watkins, gave your all for five years, best of luck for the future.

Personally I find it very flattering he devotes so much time to a club he claims to hate??? Afcb4death - are you by any chance the 13 year old boy at school who pings the back of a girls bra and teases her to hide your true feelings for her??? Or more like a lad who has yet to make the big jump of coming out (as a Town fan, but it may fit for you in other ways - each to their own!!)

I think you may find wiki is slightly inaccurate with its info - Trashton Gate is the largest sewerage treatment facility but I understand that Priestfield is in fact the 2nd largest sewerage treatment facility.
However, I understand the Bin man does indeed have intentions to make the Kassam the worlds largest when the fourth wheel is put on the bin...

Well said that man. Nick always seemed to be the calm voice when all around were losing their heads. It became part of the match day ritual to see him wander through the Arkells and round towards the Town End to get fans' views. We will miss the man who had time for everybody.

Afcb4life. As a fellow Bournemouth supporter i would advise that you put a little more thought into your posts. Either use real wit (banter) which usually gets em going, or educated discussion is generally acceptable.
To all you Swindon fans getting narked by said individual, have a look on our site you have a fair few numpty's on there, aint that right BournemouthRobin.???

Fair enough if you say about your crowds, i don't support AFCB so could only judge on the occasions you mentioned. Personally I hope you do take over 3k to away matches - at the end of the day we all support smaller teams and I like to think that although we may have our little squables there is a little solidarity amongst us against the Premigreed clubs.
Like you say, a good bit of banter is good fun.

We can all look through our history and find a few odd occasions but to be honest your away support in the league is no where near as good as ours!
Come on admit it you going back to 1987 etc and games against your bitter rivals is a bit desperate don't you think.
Anyway I think you might be in denial about your problems the talk is the ruskies have fallen out with your strange chairman big time
Ohh thanks for ticking off afcb4life he is such a naughty child still school tommorow he needs to work on his spelling and grammar

Frankly even if it were true, i find it amazing that any decent football fan would revel at the possible demise of another football club, especially a NON-RIVAL.
During Swindon's recent off field problems not once did i take satisfaction from your plight. Yes i would have made a few quips about footballing matters and even had banter with some of your less educated fans, but take delight, Na, not for me.!!!!! Not even the Scum down the road got that treatment.
Besides do you honestly believe Demin would cough up 400k for Ritchie and then jump ship 6 weeks later.????. Come on, why would he, the bloke is a shrewd businessman and would not throw money away like that. As with all businesses if you see an oppertunity to opperate more efficiently then sadly changes have to be made as you've seen on here today.!!!!!.
Now, regarding away attendances, it is difficult to compare that as Swindon have been top 6 for almost the entire season whereas Bournemouth started very poorly playing rubbish football. As an example, when we played Cov away we were in(near) bottom 4 and only took 750 up there. If the game were to be played now, who knows.????. Another exaple was Pompey away where we took over 2,500 on a saturday, whereas i believe Swindon took around 1,500 on a tuesday night, so you see not comparable. You asked if we had ever taken 3,000 away and as stated earlier i just plucked those particular stats off the top of my head, no digging needed. By the way it is spelt TOMORROW.!!!!. We are footy fans not grammer(deliberate error) fans.

When they were crap a couple of years ago we had great fun with them, fair do's to them though at least their banter was cracking and they weren't as fragile as you lot. where in my post do i say i want your club to suffer???
all i said was i think you are burying your head in the sand a bit, stop being so tetchy worried yes.. i take no pleasure in seeing your clubs owners and backers fighting etc. you always will be a smaller club than swindon with less fans.
even Southampton fans i know laugh at you as they see pompey as a rival your fans even have to cling on believing we at swindon are rivals to you, because no other team will take you seriously enough, we have poxford.
nice to see that i hit a nerve with you eddie

Cookie, harsh but fair. The Saints fans I know down here don't really take them seriously too. Must be a bit of a bummer when the team they pitch as their biggest rival doesn't even care. Got to be the ultimate insult.....
AFCB - We're bigger than you, we're bigger than you, We are Swindon, we're bigger than you!!
i travel around for work and have many customers who are saints fans and they honestly to do take them seriously at all, they actually chuckle when they mention bournemouth.
I think it also winds him up that you are a swindon fan as well the name bournemouthrobin must really wind him up

Yhea right Saints really dont care about us, obviously you are relatively new to our site. When they were crap a couple of years ago we had great fun with them, fair do's to them though at least their banter was cracking and they weren't as fragile as you lot. Geographicly they are our nearest rival like it or not. I think you will be able to find stuff on youtube to suggest they take us more seriously than you might think.
Incidently a Scummer i work with reckons Swindon are a massive, massive club. pmsl.
Cheers, I do my best, can't remember seeing a Swindon Cherrie on the echo site too ha ha!!
Steady,
I've lived down this way for over 25 years and I've never met a Saints fan that took AFCB seriously. No offence but I think they may have been having some fun with you when they were rubbish, kind of pretending to treat you seriously....remembe

You ask me if the slightly offencive tone necessary, well i would say about as necessary as 3 hrs of re-quotes on top of re-quotes.
Honey or vinegar,i say it how it is not necessarily meant to provoke but to get a reaction, like i said i'm normally one of those that banter with the trespassers but 3 hrs of re-quoting takes the pi$$.Going back to bed to try getting out the other side, doubt it will make much of a difference though, have a nice day.

ly that wouldn't necessitate a slightly offensive tone from me but each to their own.
Then again, if results go against us this weekend then the slightest thing could get me in a right sulk, too big a head on my guinness, that sort of thing, so I may need to stay in bed the whole of sunday...

Folks, I believe AFCB4death is actually a secret Town fan so please be gentle with him - he spends so much time here.
