SWINDON TOWN: Town confirms Watkin departure

Nick Watkins has left Swindon Town Nick Watkins has left Swindon Town

SWINDON Town have confirmed that Nick Watkins has stepped down from his role as chief executive at the club.

Watkins is understood to have had his final official day at the County Ground on Friday but will remain available to the Robins' new owners until March 31 during transition.

In a statement on the club's official website, Watkins said: "I am relieved and delighted that the club has been able to secure new owners and I wish Jed McCrory and his team every ounce of success going forward.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed each single minute of my five years with the club and I shall remember my time here with great affection.  I have been privileged to work with a great team of people, and I am proud that I can hand to the new owners, a Club that is in peak condition.

“To the STFC staff, sponsors, suppliers, and the fans, I would like to express my genuine and very sincere gratitude for your friendship and support. COYR."

Robins general manager Steve Murrall said in the same statement: “First of all on behalf of Jed and his team, I would like to thank Nick for his considerable efforts during his time with the club.

“As new owners we have inherited a great team on and off the pitch and that’s testament to Nick’s good work. We now look forward to building on those great foundations and taking the club forward towards the Championship.”

Nobody seems to stay in a job 5 minutes in football, especially STFC, the word loyalty does not exist, the grass is always greener on the other side, not like in real world where if you are employed you stick at it, and count yourself lucky, compared to the thousands out of work. The only true loyalty exists with the supporters who turn out week in week out, as for the rest its a me me me culture!!!!.

Strange coment Calcio - 5 years is not 5 minutes seems like a fair stint to me.

Moving on is often the best way to secure a promotion/pay increase and stops you going stale

Calcio - wake up and smell the coffee! Obviously the new consortium have their own man who they want to assume the role of MD (the Operations guy? Can't remember his name). There was no room for Nick, it's nothing to do with loyalty or pay rises.

Thank you Nick for all your hard work, well-chosen words, and holding your head high in what must have been a turbulent working environment. Your efforts are appreciated.

For one we were saved yet again, for how long nobody knows.
I also fear if Shrewsbury are not paid the additional amount of 20K there will be an embargo yet again
That deal was done and Jed and his Crew should pay up.
I also doubt if we will see further loan additions.
Still at the end of the day we have a club in a good spot in the Division.
Yet I guess like many of you we get the feeling something quite aint right

Well this is a truly sad, sad day; the one executive this club has had who had the entire well-being of STFC and the supporters as his personal responsibility and who acted positively on every little criticism that the supporters had with a variety of matters concerning a wealth of seemingly menial matters which he dealt with unfailingly and has led to an above average standard of turnout of the stadium. Nick was the loveliest most approachable member of staff at The County Ground. He was the public face of the Directors and represented them in a wonderfully friendly manner which promoted an enormous feel-good factor to the great benefit of the Club. If Nick is reading this I'm the chap who had an ankle replacement operation earlier in 2012 and you jokingly doubted when I was in the wheelchair for several months. Nick we will miss you and your sense of humour greatly. Thank you on behalf of all of the supporters for the friendly and thoroughly professional manner in which you conducted yourChief Executive duties at the club over the past 5 years. You were a pleasure to talk to on match days in the belief that you were listening and acting upon various recommendtions to the great benefit of STFC. Good luck in whatever you do in the future Nick, the Club and its' supporters will miss you big time.

Couldn't find that on Mail Online but like other posters it is the same story that we read on Wiki weeks ago. I did however click on The Golden years & there are two great pictures of what they described as arguably the greatest day in League Cup History. The first one is of the Roger Smart goal & the second is the team being presented with the cup. Stan Harland & the rest are plastered in mud but our goal hero Sir Don only has a few splash marks hahaha just how I remember the great man.

I never new him personally but everyone seems to have a good word for Nick Watkins which is lovely to hear.

I am assuming his leaving is by mutual consent & one of our new board will take over the roll, thus reducing costs, all part of running a tighter ship, which makes sense.

I have to admitt to wondering if the new board would want to bring in their own man. Nick's leaving is therefore sad but was likely.

I think you may find wiki is slightly inaccurate with its info - Trashton Gate is the largest sewerage treatment facility but I understand that Priestfield is in fact the 2nd largest sewerage treatment facility.

However, I understand the Bin man does indeed have intentions to make the Kassam the worlds largest when the fourth wheel is put on the bin...

Going back to 1987 is a bit desperate don't you think??? And also using figures from games against your biggest rivals who are only 30 miles up the road also doesn't really tell the tale.

Going back to 1987 is a bit desperate don't you think??? And also using figures from games against your biggest rivals who are only 30 miles up the road also doesn't really tell the tale.

Cookie was correctly referring to our game against Coventry - which was last weekend and they are not remotely our biggest rivals!!!
Just a few significant occasions that sprang immediately to mind.
Im sure i could dredge up far more recent, just cant be bothered.

The 1987 game (1-1) with the imfamous rock throwing incident they barely managed a few thousand.

Yep, and most of the talk seems to be amongst you lot.
Frankly even if it were true, i find it amazing that any decent football fan would revel at the possible demise of another football club, especially a NON-RIVAL.
During Swindon's recent off field problems not once did i take satisfaction from your plight. Yes i would have made a few quips about footballing matters and even had banter with some of your less educated fans, but take delight, Na, not for me.!!!!! Not even the Scum down the road got that treatment.
Besides do you honestly believe Demin would cough up 400k for Ritchie and then jump ship 6 weeks later.????. Come on, why would he, the bloke is a shrewd businessman and would not throw money away like that. As with all businesses if you see an oppertunity to opperate more efficiently then sadly changes have to be made as you've seen on here today.!!!!!.
Now, regarding away attendances, it is difficult to compare that as Swindon have been top 6 for almost the entire season whereas Bournemouth started very poorly playing rubbish football. As an example, when we played Cov away we were in(near) bottom 4 and only took 750 up there. If the game were to be played now, who knows.????. Another exaple was Pompey away where we took over 2,500 on a saturday, whereas i believe Swindon took around 1,500 on a tuesday night, so you see not comparable. You asked if we had ever taken 3,000 away and as stated earlier i just plucked those particular stats off the top of my head, no digging needed. By the way it is spelt TOMORROW.!!!!. We are footy fans not grammer(deliberate error) fans.

Afcb4life. As a fellow Bournemouth supporter i would advise that you put a little more thought into your posts. Either use real wit (banter) which usually gets em going, or educated discussion is generally acceptable.
To all you Swindon fans getting narked by said individual, have a look on our site you have a fair few numpty's on there, aint that right BournemouthRobin.???

?
Unfortunately Steady you are correct, there are some on there, however I hope myself and OxenRed for example have tried to use some banter or educated discussion on the echo site too. Don't know if you read my post 6pm today on the cherries redundancies thread - hope that gives you an idea of my thoughts?

Apologies if you thought I meant yourself when I mentioned names on the echo site, there has been someone else just called SteadyEddie (without the 1 for the road bit) that has often been quite abusive on here.

Fair enough if you say about your crowds, i don't support AFCB so could only judge on the occasions you mentioned. Personally I hope you do take over 3k to away matches - at the end of the day we all support smaller teams and I like to think that although we may have our little squables there is a little solidarity amongst us against the Premigreed clubs.
Like you say, a good bit of banter is good fun.
Good luck for the rest of the season, I have a few mates as cherries fans so would be pleased to see you go up, just not in front of us!
I did read your jibe about Hamworthy, which i thought a bit laughable. Lived in and went to school(Herbert Carter Secondry)in Hamworthy, never did me any harm although, i would pay good money to watch you walk through Turlin Moor after dark singing that song of yours. I have seen Walcot and Lawn mate so you can see why i say laughable.!!!!!!!
I hoped my jibe about Hamworthy was seen as a joke to get a response from AFCB4life. And it was on this site rather than the AFCB site - I think its fair game for me to poke fun at someone like AFCB4life on here, but note I have not in any way been insulting on the cherries site - I have better things to do than insult your sensible posters on your site when some of them are possibly people I know and am friends with anyway.
I actually have a few old mates that live there and have sang that to them. I used to live just off Boscombe Crescent (was younger and poorer then!!) and they would say a similar thing back to me - as a local mickey taking amongst friends...
Bear in mind I do live in Bournemouth, think you missed a trick not mentioning Penhill though - purely cause its probs not the best part of Swindon but Penhill in Poole is lovely!!
Get a room!
?????? Please explain?????
The Bournemouth love in and all our yesterday's lol :)
Thats pretty funny Jockster - like it.

Still, living down here I do like a bit of banter with them, just a shame they can't see they have picked the wrong team to support

What a complete load of shat, now i'm all for a bit of a wind up but you lot keep quoting each other is a facking joke wasting my life having to scroll down,it really is simple once re-quoted a few times why not just name the person you are directing your post at,it really gets annoying trying to get through all the shat.
Another example; just tell trespassing divvy`s to fack off,why play games back and forth or do something about it,meet up and have it,whatever you decide please stop quote on top of quote when playing silly buggers,if you don't like what Ive said i am available to discuss at your convenience.

If taking a few extra seconds to scroll down a few posts is the most annoying thing to you then fair enough - can't see its worth getting upset about myself. Although is the slightly offensive tone really required - you might find you catch more flies with honey than vinegar?

Also - didn't you just re-quote us all - just a thought....

They have never taken 4,500 to Swindon.

The 1987 game (1-1) with the imfamous rock throwing incident they barely managed a few thousand.

Where do they dream this up.
Do you have acess to archives, if so go back and check. I was there that day.!!!!
I hope you weren't the one throwing the concrete! I was on Stratton Bank with my (then small) kids that day trying to shield them from the barrage. I remember seeing guys covered in blood. It was one of the most disgraceful performances by a set of away fans I have ever seen.

It was the same on both sides of the fence, there was an old fella lying out cold, covered in blood in the away end. I think initially the concrete eminated from the home end and got returned. I am with you, it was disgusting behaviour from both sets of fans, thankfully things have improved since those dark days not least the cumbling grounds.

You see Bournemouth you can do it,of course i re-quoted on top of your re-quotes,what do you expect? me to make it easy for you after i have had to scroll through all that crap.
You ask me if the slightly offencive tone necessary, well i would say about as necessary as 3 hrs of re-quotes on top of re-quotes.
Honey or vinegar,i say it how it is not necessarily meant to provoke but to get a reaction, like i said i'm normally one of those that banter with the trespassers but 3 hrs of re-quoting takes the pi$$.Going back to bed to try getting out the other side, doubt it will make much of a difference though, have a nice day.

I wouldn't exactly say you made it hard for me either Steve, I just held the button on my mouse for about an extra 0.23 seconds.....personal
ly that wouldn't necessitate a slightly offensive tone from me but each to their own.

Then again, if results go against us this weekend then the slightest thing could get me in a right sulk, too big a head on my guinness, that sort of thing, so I may need to stay in bed the whole of sunday...

Personally I find it very flattering he devotes so much time to a club he claims to hate??? Afcb4death - are you by any chance the 13 year old boy at school who pings the back of a girls bra and teases her to hide your true feelings for her??? Or more like a lad who has yet to make the big jump of coming out (as a Town fan, but it may fit for you in other ways - each to their own!!)

Bless - I suppose being on this site is a good break from bashing your bishop!

Hamworthy cacker, your just a hamworthy cacker, hamworthy cacker.....
You will be bashing your bishop in league 2 in a few years you nobjock
