SWINDON TOWN: Caretaker boss admits team needs a 'new voice'
6:00am Wednesday 27th February 2013 in Sport By Sam Morshead
TOMMY Miller has suggested a “new voice” is needed in the Swindon Town camp to keep their League One promotion push on track.
The joint caretaker player manager was speaking after his side’s 1-0 home defeat to lowly Bury last night, during which Swindon put in perhaps their worst league display of the campaign to slip to fourth in the table.
Miller and Darren Ward are due to sit down with Town’s new chairman, Jed McCrory, today to discuss the direction the club need to take with regards to management in the immediate future, and he has hinted that he thinks a new face is the best way forward to everyone involved.
“I think we’ve got to look at everything – how the lads have responded – and I think on tonight’s display you can see that it wasn’t good enough,” he said. “Something needs to be done, me and Darren will have a chat.
“We’re helping the club out at the minute, we’re still players so we need to look at things and I’m sure we’ll be sat down in the next 24 hours.
“I think initially they were right behind you. There’s no doubting the effort just the quality and final ball tonight weren’t there. Maybe it needs a different voice, someone from the outside coming in to get a hold of the lads.
“It’s entirely up to the new owners and how they see it but I think possibly it does need a new voice, someone different to tell them. With myself and Darren it is quite hard both being players to instruct things on the pitch at the same time.
“I’m sure something will happen tomorrow and then we will take it from there.”
The new board need to decide whether or not to appoint a new boss, bring in coaches to support the pair or allow the players to remain in charge until the end of the season.
The Advertiser understands Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink, Terry Butcher, Phil Brown, Andy Thorn, Gus MacPherson, Ian Dowie and Peter Taylor are interested in the permanent manager’s job at the County Ground, while Paul Tisdale and Steve Coppell have been linked with the Robins.

2 home games against teams low down in the league have yielded only one point when we should of got 6. Well Paolo you are your staff have certainly punished the new board and fans haven't you...by the way what exactly did we do wrong?

game but the commentary and subsequent posts make for dire reading.
I know its pretty early for the board etc but could I be right in thinking they would settle for mid table obscurity in L1 rather than face promotion and the obvious further investment in the team to play at Championship level?
Conspiracy? Maybe, just maybe. However they have hardly shown any real desire to sort the issue of manager, team and promotion. On the other hand, we are going to have concerts galore at the CG. Great! So much for being a football fan...

If I was Jed I'd have been knocking Paolo's front door down last night...
Can be reassessed in the summer... Lets just get over that finishing line down. We need the consistency... I fear bringing in a rushed new manager now will not work & on last nights showing we can't go into another game without one.

It's very obvious we need a manager appointed ASAP! It's not fair to expect Darren and Tommy to shoulder this responsibility and also carry on playing, and it seems the players are not giving 100% for them.

If you don't know yet what the old board did to force Di Canio out then you probably never will.

I know everyone says that, and the fans deserve more after what we've all been through in the past 6 weeks....

Hence allowing 2 senior team members take the reigns for 2 games.
Now, they have tried and one has publically said, they need someone new...as stated above, they will sit donw with Jed today and discuss getting a new manager.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised; and we'll have a new manager announced by Saturdays game.

PDC - good while it lasted but never going to last.
We need a good experienced mgr on the line conducting the team... this Tisdale does strike me as a bit of an odd bod,but he has done reasonable well over the last few seasons with probably a very tight budget.

It was if Paul Tisdale was already in the dug out. Leadership and a voice needed from the sidelines, but lacking.
Saturday we got away with it, last night we perhaps glimpsed the future.
If we want mediocre then appoint Tisdale., Newell, Buckle, etc.. And we will get more results and performances like last night.
Unlike Saturday, it's not all doom and gloom. Today Jed can show real leadership from the top down and make an effort to reappoint someone.
Depending on his decision we will see if he turns out to be Jedi or Jedwood. The Empire could strike back but you need to get a move on Jed.
GET AROUND THE BLOODY TABLE AND WORK IT OUT.....BOTH OF YOU.

The board don't seem to have had the sense of urgency the situation requires. Also, as I think we should only get an interim manager (experienced manager e.g. Coppell) it shouldn't take that long to find.

Really fancy the win for the Town tonight. But we will still have to be on our guard tonight. No sloppy goals given away as in recent games.
Bury haven't won in 12 visits to the CG
Hmmm! dont be too complacent..... before this season Macclesfield hadn't won here at all.
The only silver-lining to take from last night is that the other teams around us are also dropping points like its going out of fashion. Who ever can get a grip in the last few games should easily win this league.
That could be us. But going on the performance of the last 2 games, we're quickly going to be also rans.

How can a side degenerate into that clueless rabble arguing amongst themselves in such a short time? Who are we going to beat for the rest of the season playing like that? We looked like the side almost relegated, not Bury.
That car crash of a take over has cost us dear. No manager, no back up staff and a depleated squad, At least 4 players short, 3 players lost in the Jan window which would have made a big difference and with good players going out.
Something needs to be done. Not to save our promotion hopes, they vanished last night with that abject performance. Something needs to be done now to save next season or we will finish up like we did with Wilson in charge. Within touching distance of the Championship only to be allowed to slide into L2.
It's up to the new board now to grasp the initiative. If they don't then we know what the plan for the future really is!

The priority must be ownership and development of the CG surely.Yes,events,al
l year round.Football revenues from gates around 7k would only sustain League 1
status. As a parameter look at Peterborough's situation.Gates of 15k ++property assets, with year round use, revenues, must be the paramount objective. How you arrive at that
situation is the challenge for the Board.Until that unlikely time the selling of players has to be the case very sadly. The Black era is over.Di Canio whilst bringing passion, high fitness levels, discipline(ex
cept his own),and good attractive football,at such a high cost simply could not be sustained.Another Pompey waiting to happen.Hopefully there will be more attractive football to the end of season with the team remaining around the promotion end is the most that a realistic fan's aspirations can expect?

Admitted they haven't got much to choose from with the squad depleted like they are. but playing Macca at right back AGAIN was a huge mistake, Nat Thompson is one of the best right backs in div 1 and they left him to sit on the bench in order to give the captain a game. They could have started Macca in midfield where he is not such a liability, god knows we needed some extra effort there. We've dropped 7 points from 3 sloppy goals conceeded in 3 home games at home that should have cemented our promotion challnge that can be attrbruted to poor defending, but then the ineffective midfield and the non-existence of the dymanic duo up front also have to take a share of the blame.
As I just posted on the match commentary by Sam - You can't blame Ward and Miller for this. They didn't want or ask to be put in this position but something needs to be done, and done quickly. Last night was simply shocking!

What was evident is that we need someone with experience to steer the players from the bench.. Lets hope the board do not rush into an appointment (unless it's PDC) before the weekend. With the pressure off due to everyone expecting a thumping we could well get an unexpected result at Coventry.. Especially with the expected 3000 fans behind the team. Oh my!! What a shambles that was last night!!! Really sad to see the players being booed off at the end though... I believe they should take stock and get the right man in before we play Warsaw........

But we need to start with a manager by saturday, there's no doubting the players have been out on the Town since PdC left us, and it showed last night.
For me Owen Coyle (If he's interested as reported) failing that Tisdale, Yates or Brown. Jimmy Floyd would be a good shout at the start of the season but no rookies at the moment.

Well Paolo you are your staff have certainly punished the new board and fans haven't you...by the way what exactly did we do wrong?
Six or eight weeks ago we would have had Hollands, Martin, Ritchie, Devera and Ferry in the side and then four weeks ago we would have had Pack, Wriht Philips and Green to replace Ritchie Hollands and Martin.
Our squad is threadbare and we have few options, as had we had a fit Ferry, retained a fit Hollands and got Pack in, then Navarro would not have made the bench!
Quite frankly our current squad is not good enough or big enough and we need new faces quickly.

Regardless of recent events, comments and actions, by signing this petition you are joining your voice to echo out a simple single message.
We want to see Paolo Di Canio officially offered a return to the role of Manager of Swindon Town FC.
We want to see Paolo Di Canio's backroom staff offered a return to their previous roles within Swindon Town FC.
We want to see and hear comments and evidence, that the newly established board have exhausted all avenues to bring Paolo Di Canio back to the County Ground.

I have gripes with the posters on here already moaning at the board they only took over last Thursday? What do you expect?
Tommy & Darren have tried and admitted they need a Manager so im sure Jed will sit down and create a short list today. But don’t expect someone to be in before Saturday its Wednesday guys and interviews and 2nd interviews take more than 2 – 3 days.
I would expect they will be aiming to get a new Manager in later next week before the Walsall game.
Also as for people moaning about staging concerts and music god the board are only trying to create extra revenue for the club. You try running a club with no income coming in between May and August what is wrong with creating extra revenue avenues? So many posters on here are short sighted.
I think there are many good available Managers or potential new Managers out there.
Calderwood, Kerslake, Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink, Tisdale. Hoddle
Tisdale took Exeter City from Conference to Division 1 although they did get relegated back to Div 2 last season so the jury is out on him I suppose. Although they are in a play off position at present.
He is quite the opposite to Paolo regarding his match interviews if you look at his latest against Burton on the BBC website and is a bit hesitant to be honest.

None of us know what happened behind the scenes, but hopefully it will be revealed one day. Maybe, as suggested in the press, his demands were so excessive that there was no way the new board could agree to them. We know he is a control freak, which got results on the pitch, so I suspect he (and Spencer) engaged in brinkmanship with the McCrory consortium and, ultimately, it failed. A similar thing happened when he went back to Lazio. As everyone know, he was hugely popular with the fans and had strong links with the Irriducibili, who were involved in a power struggle with the president, Claudio Lotito, which they lost.
I went to a few Lazio games around this time (including the derby he scored in, when he did the infamous salute for first time) and it was pretty ugly. Di Canio was released at the end of the season and joined Cisco Roma, then lost his court case against Lazio for unpaid wages.
I love the mad ****, but I'm sure he won't be back. As you say, we need to be looking forward.

Although i didnt always agree with the way Paulo conducted himself in the press regarding players etc, his win ratio was excellent. but if he did return, im not so sure we would then perform better etc and win the league. The players i would excpect will feel hurt and let down by the way he left. The respect he gained has may have been dented. It could cause a bit of friction in the dressing room and team spirit could be at a low.
I know we all hope if he did come back that it will continue how it was a few months ago but i just am not to sure

And the worst part is he is just playing a game with us now by not releasing a statement, so the team can't move on as we're are all wondering if he will come back...

He took charge after Paul Hart and at least got the team playing towards the end of the season. There was clearly no love lost between him and PDC and maybe that would affect his relationship with the first team players, but we need a short term fix. There is no time to bring in a new manager, PDC isn't coming back, so surely Paul Bodin has to be considered.
It wasn't that long ago that everyone was calling for him to be given the job anyway.

Motm was a joke, I think Macca has been off the boil for a whilea nd it is difficult to justify his place in the team as full back, Nathon is so much better in that position. To behonest Aden Flint was the best of a bad bunch.
Midfield was missing completly without Ferry there, Navaro simply not good enough and Miller not an attacking midfielder.
I dont agree with the booign but Roberts, once again and Navaro truely awful, Roberts couldn't pass a kidney stone let alone a football, he has had 2/3 good games all season.
We need direction and therefore a new manager asap, there is still time to get auto place but no time for delay in appointing a new man to lead us.

A truly shocking performance from Town last night. However, Bury played beyond their league position and thoroughly deserved their win. They defended from the front and on the front foot. Yes, the ref bottled it for what was a clear 2nd yellow in the space of 30 seconds and a straight red for the studs up challenge on Thompson but, we shouldn't need the ref's help when playing a side that has been in the bottom four all season. We need a new manager, whether until the end of the season or beyond and we need him NOW!

Seems that without having proper coaches, management and motivators teams crumble. Who'd have guessed!!!!
Lets be fair, the squad isnt greatest in the league, but the workrate and preparation for each game has made us into a well oiled machine. That can only be down to the management/coaching team. So we now have a few choices, leave it as it is, with no a licensed coach (or pitman who couldnt cut it at hereford, or Bodin who paolo didnt rate) and puts extra pressure on two solid performers this season. Get in new manager who has same want to play attractive attacking football who might be able to get us in playoffs if lucky, or we bring back paolo and let him finish the job he started.
Its clear he was hurt by situation, its clear he's hurt some of us by leaving when he did but wouldnt a massive promotion push bring us back together???

Without any disrespect to any of the current interim management team, it is without question that Paolo Di Canio achieved a great deal in his time at the club.
With Paolo Di Canio and his team back in charge, with their work ethic and enthusiasm... We can build Swindon Town into a stable, sustainable Championship club. This is the best chance we've had in an awful long time to reach the Championship - Please don't let it slip away!

All the good work that has gone into this season if you don't act he'd and get additional players in and a manager. It's been staring us in the face for a few weeks and we have dropped 5 points to two poor teams in our last two home games.
If you don't act Jed we won't be winning any more games. We are lacking leadership and direction and that is not a criticism of ward and miller.
Can't see us winning Saturday.
The honeymoon is over Jed please act before it all blows up in our face.
Thompson must play full back with Macca in the middle. There goal came down that side last night with MAcca out of position. I don't think Navarro would have lasted to half time with that display under PDC. One beam of light was Luke Rooney's performance when he came on. They played hoofball because they couldn't pass it in midfield with the side they started with. No energy without Ferry.
We need positive action to get a good manager and some new loaners asap. Why is everyone about Tisdale? He is mediocre and we need to aim higher. If Sherwood was available then I would take him in a heartbeat.
A good manager will put 1-2k on the gate and pay for himself. 7500 last night will dwindle further if the performances like that continue.

Cheering substitutions? Booing the players? shouting constant abuse at individuals?
Last nights support was shameful and a complete embarrassement. I really thought STFC had a decent loyal fan base and I thought if anything the PDC situation would unite the fans, players and club further together. How wrong was I?
Either support the players and the club through thick and thin, keep quiet or don't bother coming back...I wonder if Roberts and Navarro are thinking of doing exactly that this morning.
A lot of Swindon fans are no different from most fans around the country these days, every pass has to be pin point every shot has to go etc etc etc
They keep forgetting we are a division 3 side with division 3 players and not the EPL,Serie A,La Lige,Bundeslige players that they watch on TV 7 days a week.

Ward, Mr Consistent all season, had a poor game. Obvious it's a bit much for him playing and managing.
We lost the game imo because of
a) wrong squad selection. The line-up that finished the game should have started.
b) wrong hoofball tactics - man to man Bury were more physical. It's pointless hoofing the ball to De Vita and Roberts they don't fancy a challenge. Collins and Williams at least jumped at times but barely won a header all night. Hoofball doesn't suit our team personnel, as we know.
c) Squad is too thin, we DESPERATELY need reinforcements. A striker, winger and Marlon Pack or Bostock will do. Players may be playing within themselves through lack of comeptition for place but also to avoid injury.
d) A new manager? I don't know if a new manager would have made that much difference other than team selection. Pitman was at pitch side and seemed involved so there was representation in the dug out. (Was he there on Saturday I was behind the dug out then so couldn't see). Di Canio would probably have started with the same side, without Luke Rooney in the squad. Ward may have played better. Other than that I don't know.
Miller has said he thinks we should get a new man in, I imagine Ward will as well, and I think everyone agrees, so lets see who that may be. Pros and cons on any name mentioned so far. Players needed too, that is also clear.

1. Di Canio coming back
2. Promotion
First : Di Canio walked at a dangerous time for the club when we needed stability and everyone to knuckle down and dig in. Instead he treated everyone with contempt. He's not coming back. If he did he'd have no authority.
Second: promotion with this set up ?
There are major big hitting clubs in the championship - Leicester, Leeds Blackburn etc possibly next season Aston Villa etc. Can we can equal or outplay these clubs match after match with last nights team as a core ?
Dream on.
Promotion has to be a long term plan.
New manager a short term plan

I enjoyed the roller coaster while it lasted and I thought Paolo's positives outweighed his negatives. I was sorry to see him go but I'm certainly not creeping and crawling around pleading for him to return.
If that's how he chose to act, then in my book he can *** off, he has burnt his bridges. Time to move on, the world has not ended and there are plenty more fish in the sea.

Even if we miss out this season we will be ok and I hope financially secure.
Get so fed up with all this crap petitions for pdc to come back if he did he would bankrupt this new lot within 6 months if allowed to.

All those who keep harking on about Paolo consider this. Last year, Paolo pulled out of attempting to buy James Constable from the Scum because he wanted more time to think about the move. Paolo has resigned and left us at a time when we needed him. By his own standards, Paolo wouldn't re-employ Paolo! Now as I have posted elsewhere, like all of you, I don't know the real ins and outs of what went on between the Old Board and Paolo and now, as they have all left, I don't give a rat's backside. I was there last night to support my team, unlike a lot of people who disgracefully booed, and I'll support whever the next manager is. If you are not interested in supporting the team and new Boardand management, whoever it proves to be then I suggest you go elsewhere to watch your football. I was ashamed to be a Swindon fan last night, not because of the team but because of some of our so-called fans.
I did not boo or leave early but people pay their money and have a right to voice thier opinion. Right or Wrong you have no right to tell people to go elsewhere. You do what you feel is right and others will do the same.
Can I ask how would you advise fans to voice thier concerns knowing that 8000 e-mails would not get the deserved attention.

He has done himself no good whatsoever by leaving. He had a very good record with us and had the chance to stay and possible made it better. He chose to leave, his choice, no-one elses.
He is a good manager but as we know he is temperamental and as such maybe considered a risk by chairman. His act of walking out has increased this risk and he may now find it very difficult to find another position in the UK.

pat.swindon.f.c. wrote:How has this comment been missed - by far the most sensible I've seen for weeks and echoes my sentiments?!
Let's all take a reality check.Swindon are not ready for Championship Football. To go up would take considerably increased investment in players wages, bonuses, from the Board. This Board, unless they really have a moneyman in the cupboard are just average business guys. The priority must be ownership and development of the CG surely.Yes,events,al l year round.Football revenues from gates around 7k would only sustain League 1 status. As a parameter look at Peterborough's situation.Gates of 15k ++property assets, with year round use, revenues, must be the paramount objective. How you arrive at that situation is the challenge for the Board.Until that unlikely time the selling of players has to be the case very sadly. The Black era is over.Di Canio whilst bringing passion, high fitness levels, discipline(ex cept his own),and good attractive football,at such a high cost simply could not be sustained.Another Pompey waiting to happen.Hopefully there will be more attractive football to the end of season with the team remaining around the promotion end is the most that a realistic fan's aspirations can expect?
We are not ready for Championship football big backers or not. There is a MASSIVE gap between L1 and Championship football. Most of theL1 teams who have been promoted in recent years all have good stadiums, support and infrastructure to them - Leeds, Southampton, Charlton, Huddersfield, Norwich, Millwall, Brighton, Sheff Weds, Swansea, Forest, Blackpool.
Winning the play-offs v Millwall would have been bad enough - the gap now is even bigger and it will be a bigger car crash if we go up this season.
The result will be mass hysteria which as the past few weeks has shown few STFC fans can cope with, our **** kicked each week, low attendances, probably another manager after the next one gets sacked for not delivering, and back at square one in 2014/15 with more than dented pride.
Do not get me wrong, we can get there and we need to get there, but lets not run before we can walk.
Get a new manager for the long term who isn't going to be threatening to walk every week, who will be loyal if other clubs come knocking and who can build a team capable of the transition - last night proved, this one isn't and we won't have the money to re-build each year as PDC broke the bank.
Let’s get the commercials right off the pitch, get the extra income streams coming in and develop the ground so that we can use that income to make the club sustainable.
Some will see this as a negative comment – it’s not it’s realistic. We are in a positive position at the moment with a new board that can support us for the foreseeable. We need to consolidate after the PDC whirlwind. We don’t need him back – he walked out and my views would be the same even if he was still here.
Oh, and quit with the BOOING – we lost our first game in 14 last night in which we have scored 19 goals in 8 home games….and the team get booed off!

I know they're new and need time to settle in but at the moment they're like kids with new toys.
They need to get stuck into doing what they're here for. I don't want to see them giving out scarves and buying pink shirts for kids, not yet anyway! There are far more important things on the agenda.
I don't want them to be invisible like Andrew Black but they need to find some middle ground, get the jobs done that need doing, starting today with a firm decision on a manager.
Time is running out.
Come on Jed. If you're serious about our Club we need to see some action. Appointing a manager is probably the biggest, most important footballing decision you'll have to make. He shouldn't be bigger than the club but he should be as big as it. Once the manager's in place you can get on with the Mr Nice Guy stuff, leave him to run the football side.
The first thing you should do is confirm that Paolo won't be coming back. It's the number one thing on most fans minds and stopping us from moving on.
Just say it, we'll appreciate it more than the hope we're being fed.

Either support the players and the club through thick and thin, keep quiet or don't bother coming back...I wonder if Roberts and Navarro are thinking of doing exactly that this morning.

If nothing else he should show some respect for the fans who sung his name as one and make it clear so we can all move on.

All in good time, as we can go up the right way, with patience & lots of money?

Also, plenty of clubs have managed to punch above their weight and managed to establish themselves at a higher level for years (e.g. Wimbledon, Coventry, Southampton, - Stoke & Swansea now). We could be one of those clubs - or at least we should aspire to be. As long as we are sensible with the extra money from the Championship we should be stronger if we did get relegated.

I getting bored of two things on these threads. 1. Di Canio coming back 2. Promotion First : Di Canio walked at a dangerous time for the club when we needed stability and everyone to knuckle down and dig in.

From Heads of State, through politics and business, to the factory shop floor you will find ministers, heads of dept, and line managers all taking credit for acheivements made by others.
Often this is to help them "Push on" in their chosen career, but equally it can be used to divert attention away from the real "workers" who may otherwise crumble when placed in the spotlight.
Just a thought, but maybe he was just soaking up pressure for the players, to allow them to focus.
With regard to signings, the failed signing of Wright-Phillips, and Pack will be the closet we come to that kind of quality without PDC on the 'phone.

All in good time, as we can go up the right way, with patience & lots of money?
It's really obvious that they have stopped training in the same way as they were up until the Tranmere match.
Up until then it was lovely attractive football, played mainly on the ground with short sharp quality passing etc etc. The only problem we had all season was the forwards not being as good as the team behind them.
So the big question is " what has happened in training to stop the progression?" Are they not training as hard? Are they training differently? Are they relaxing too much without PDC on their backs all day and night? etc etc
Surely all we need to do is reestablish the work ethic and system we were using to prepare for matches under Di Canios reign. Are we to assume they are rebelling? Maybe?
It's ridiculous having two players managing the team and as for Jamie Pitman lol He clearly has no idea whatsoever. It is not difficult to tell the players to keep the ball at their feet for starters. He obviously couldn't see that as a problem???
As I said when interviewed at half time last night, we need an experienced manager urgently and one that understands how to get this team playing the football we were playing up until the Tranmere match. Nothing needs changing other than that and maybe some loan signings for extra cover.
Please tell me someone agrees.

And with MR it was a question of do we have a CLUB.
I´m so glad we have a CLUB.
so Pdc lovers wake up and realise it was all about ME ME ME nothing else and he will find it hard to get a job now what with his antics etc
He is what he is but got the end results we all strived for.
I also think he learnt a lot from his errors after his first season and think he would have continued to do so IMO.
I know you will disagree but to me he brought pride, passion, ambiti
on and professionalism to the club which will be hard to find again IMHO.
The new budget is the same as what PDC had so lets see what the new man can do.
As for ME ME ME i think things like giving his image rights so we can have the best treatment for the players in a top hospital is not a sign of selfishness.
Also let see the quality of player the club can bring in without him on the other end of the phone..
He seemed to very much want the credit for the success that was happening, but isn't that what occurs in all walks of life?
From Heads of State, through politics and business, to the factory shop floor you will find ministers, heads of dept, and line managers all taking credit for acheivements made by others.
Often this is to help them "Push on" in their chosen career, but equally it can be used to divert attention away from the real "workers" who may otherwise crumble when placed in the spotlight.
Just a thought, but maybe he was just soaking up pressure for the players, to allow them to focus.
With regard to signings, the failed signing of Wright-Phillips, and Pack will be the closet we come to that kind of quality without PDC on the 'phone.
As SW-P and Pack wasn't Paolo that "signed" them?
Read your point gain Oldham and i agree.

We are not ready for the championship financially so why not get a solid reliable manager in who will build long term with young players (early/mid twenties) with a couple of experienced players and also give experience to a few younger players 18-21. In the meantime build the financial side with hard work from the new commercial manager with concerts etc (only problem might be poor Marcus's pitch!)
Don't really go with the fact the players were lazy and didn't try for Miller & Ward. I thought they got about the pitch but just made poor decisions and gave the ball away cheaply, that's down to quality not work-rate. They are good players the majority of them as they have proved this season.
I don't feel supporters help as much as they could, it's great to turn up and pay your money but how about some more singing and encouragement of the team? It's so quiet, look at how Pompey fans were and Preston and even Bury who only had 95, they were at least vocal. More singing, more atmosphere and try and help spur the team on, all to easy to sit and quietly moan and whine, we are all in this together surely?

Or sustainable advancement with a stable, professional manager, whose interest is with the club and not himself, and many more years of joy, heartbreak, and everything in between.
Ward, miller, navarro, macca, Flint, McEverley, Roberts, de Vita, Devera would struggle to play regular in the Championship.
Jury out on Williams, Storey, Luke Rooney and what is the future for caddis, he is still our player.
New manager would have to practically have to rebuild a new team, if we got up.

I think Nathan should have been playing from the start last night and macca in the midfield. The game seem to turn once this happened.
Macca is a great asset to any team the way he is able to switch forom CH, to RB and LB but he is/was a midfield so maybe that is where we should now be playing him as we have a good back 4 in NT, AF, DW and JM with hopefully Joe Devera being fit in reserve or even in for AF
Our midfield is thin on the ground with SF being injured.
I would have liked to see the young Louis Thompson playing last night instead of Navarro.

I'm not saying things are rosy, but let's not get carried away.
Now that to me is the worrying point.
Players will get injured, hit bad form etc.
So what can we do at present ?
Nothing except swap a few players around in different positions, play a midfielder who clearly lacks first team games and recall a winger that maybe is not 100% fit, coupled with an inexperienced keeper and central defender.
I am worried, very worried and with no news on loan players. Lost Hollands, Martin and failed with Pack, BWP and the Charlton Winger I would say we are not going to sustain all that we have achieved this season.
Coupled with a Board who are inexperienced in football and appear to have no plan. (No blame attached).
............Totally fed up today I really am.
Even worse only a month ago or so we were on fire and with Ritchie, PDC, loan additions we would have made it this season I am convinced.
Now ? - Sorry we will struggle to make play offs. Please, please, please let me be wrong but I feel downbeat.
However before I get slated I will be at Coventry.

PDC denies both of the above.
Wonder how Spencer fits into all this he said she said bolllocks.
Someone is surely lying?
I hope it is not Jed, as he is the one we are left with.
Haven't heard the interview, did PDC reveal why he set a random 5pm deadline that was out of the new boards control?
Anyway hopefully this is now the last we see on this farce, and also the soddiing petition
So high time to get a move on and get a new manager in.
Something is not adding up.

He will always be one of the greatest tactical and inspirational managers that this club has ever had, but once he decided that he no longer wants us as the vehicle for his publicity machine, despite the overwhelming show of affection from the fans, I, for one, would not want him to return. AIUI for most competitions cup receipts are split 40% home 40% away and 20% into the pool, unless this has changed in receipt seasons.
So, to take the Villa game - we had 14,434. Call that 14k for simplicity.
Even at £20 a head (which ignores kids and those sitting in the two ends) that's 14000 x £20 = £280,000. 40% of that is £96,000.
You can halve that for the Burnley game as we only had 7000-odd, so say £50k for simplicity. Assuming Stoke didn't drop the prices massively we might be able to say £50k for the first two rounds.
Even if the above comes to £200k that's over-estimating things. There's no account of kids paying £1, OAPs, or people paying less behind the goals.
So if we said £150k this year from the FLC and next to nothing from the FAC we might be reasonably close. Last season you can probably reverse the figures and add in something for the JPT, although you only make money from that for getting to the final.
If these % are wrong then I'd genuinely like someone to correct them (I'm remembering them from a Town programme - possibly during the Bolton FLC marathon - in the 90s but I'd see why they would have changed much).
So we didn't make anything like the amounts from cup runs that some people seem to think (in another thread it's describes as "millions" which is just nonsense).
And even with a bit of cup success we were still sailing so close to the wind that the timing of the payments decided by the transfer tribunal put us over the FL limit and into a transfer embargo.
Cup runs should provide us with income that hasn't been budgeted for. So we don't have to sell a player this year, or we've got money to pay off the overdraft or we can invest in better facilities. Under PDC, Wray & co it seems we *needed* a cup run in order to comply with the FL salary cap - we only got out of the last embargo because Black stumped up extra cash. Would McCrory & co be able to inject another £250k as quickly as he did (and even that wasn't quick enough for PDC)
The salary cap only limits players' wages, so excludes PDC, his team, the £460k spent on agent's. Then you've got all the non-playing staff and general bills. Based on that, I don't think we could continue the way things we going.
I don't blame PDC for all that, but you have to apportion a lot of the blame for the high turnover of players at him. Knowing how much of that £460k went to Phil Spencer would be nice as well, although I doubt we'll ever know.

Of all the important deadlines within the takeover, and surely knowing how Paolo likes to be loved, to miss that 5pm deadline, if he did, cannot have been by mistake?

Andrew Black for choosing and planning to sell the club in the middle of the season (what was the fool thinking?!)
Sir William Patey for have no communication skills and having no care for the club
The new board for not picking up the phone and attempting to persuade PDC to sit tight
And finally, I blame Di Canio for not being understanding in the situation and instead becoming frustrated and making rash decisions.
Overall, who is the winners? No-one and that is the saddest point of all. It's left a bitter taste in everyones mouths, whichever view point you hold.

They did have the odd poor performance under PDC but i don't think we can afford to see if last night was a one off.
We need a bit more variety, probably some loan players but rather urgently.
To the new owners: please don't get someone in in the cheap as we've been there before.
The football isn't entertaining & then attendances drop off so doing it on the cheap becomes more expensive.
