TOWN v PRESTON: A potted history

DESPITE the long histories of both Swindon Town and Preston North End, the two sides have only met 13 times at the County Ground.

The last clash between the sides in Wiltshire came almost 30 years ago, in December 1985, when a hat-trick from Charlie Henry and Nicky Coleman’s penalty handed the Robins a comprehensive 4-1 victory in Division Four.

Preston also conceded four times on their previous visit to the County Ground prior to that match, when Andy Rowland and Roy Carter scored a brace apiece in a 4-0 Town win in September 1981.

That result put an end to a run of three consecutive Preston successes in SN1 during the 1970s, during which Swindon manager just one goal - John Trollope finding the net in a 3-1 defeat.

The first meeting of the sides in Wiltshire took place in January 1935, with North End winning 2-0.

In all Town have won six, drawn two and lost five of the 13 games they have played against Preston at the County Ground.
