SWINDON TOWN: Town confirm Digby as goalkeeping coach

SWINDON Town have confirmed that Fraser Digby will return to the club as interim goalkeeping coach.

The former Town stopper is a cult hero at the County Ground, having made more than 500 appearances for the Robins during a 12-year playing career in Wiltshire.

Digby has been brought in to work alongside caretaker player managers Tommy Miller and Darren Ward while a new boss is sought for Swindon following the departure of Paolo Di Canio and his backroom team.

Digby took to Twitter this morning to talk about his appointment, saying: "Thanks for all your fantastic tweets, I am delighted to confirm that I will be returning to the CG as GK coach in the interim period.

"I am delighted to help out @STFC as I had a great 12 years here and to support Darren, Tommy & the rest of the squad to promotion."

Frazer frazer Digby, best keeper we have ever had, apart from Fodders.

Well done, Fraser. It's good to see everyone pulling together. We might not have a manager, or a sponge man, or owners, but we've got players who did it on Tuesday when they must have felt let down by so many people above them.

A big turnout on Saturday, please, for the guys who really matter.

Different era but I would say Fraser shades it over 'Dapper' Downsborough.
Fodders potentially best of the three in time.

The people who really care about Swindon Town are coming back to help out at their club , welcome back frazer , it's great to have you on board again , I don't think you'll be the last of the ex players coming in to help out , I recon Alan Mac will be here soon as well. Nice to see you back well done. What's happened to Paul Bodin ?

A great appointment! I watched Fraser make his debut for Swindon and what a great keeper he turned out to be? I would rate him and Peter Downsborough as our 2 greatest ever keepers but Fodders has the potential to join them in the top 3! I feel something positive has happened and boy do we need good news right now, i also am very pleased with Darren Ward and Tommy Miller being put in temporary charge of team affairs...lets hope the takeover goes through today and then we get a decent manager in and not one of the ex-Luton ones please.

An obvious choice, and no great surprise really!

Good news all the same.

A great player and a great friend of the club.

Probably still only short term, but another experienced head to work with and strengthen the interim Management team.

3 points Saturday with Bournemouth, Doncaster, Yeovil and Sheffield United all picking up 1 point each would be the perfect end to the week. As well as the FL ratification of course, but that's probably expecting too much.....

Sadly for them, I can't see Tranmere staying with the group now. They have done well to stay near the top for so long with their limited resources. Perhaps PDC should go in there and show them how it's done (spending a huge wedge of money I mean!!)

Welcome back FD. A good guy and can offer the steady head that Fodders will no doubt benefit from. As said above, good news. I still whole heartedly stick by my comment of yesterday that we should stick with the two lads in charge until the end of the season and just hire a couple of "consultants" to do the prep work, scouting of oppo etc

Maybe not the time for a debate about best keepers. But PD could throw a ball accurately upfield as far as FD could kick it.

Absolutely, undeniabley, emphatically great news. So nice to have some positive news. Let's show Paolo which men have a backbone and true commitment. Welcome back Fraser, the legend returns to assist a modern legend.

Legend!!! Best keeper I've seen in a Town shirt.

Fodders will need to maintain his high performance levels for a few seasons yet to overtake Diggers.

Fantastic, will be an inspiration to the lads having a true Swindon legend in their midst. How about Chris Kamara for manager, keeping with the nutty as a fruitcake theme we had with PDC? :-) In a good way of course.

I did tell you all on the previous thread. IMHO Diggers is way far the best and he copuld throw the ball. Luigi said it was better than his kick.

Ahhhh Tony Hicks legend , only 5.6 but geez he could get from post to post horizontally.+

The one good thing to come out of all this upheaval following PDC departure is the way the team and ex-players are pulling together for the good of our club. Thoes who love and value our football club are doing their best to hold things together. We can all do our bit by supporting them at the games.
See you at the CG this saturday.

Great shout for Kamara,, I think he still has a shop in Swindon...

I spoke to FD in the 90s to get his autograph, we beat Pompey, 1-0, bodin I think scored, Alan McLaughlin went of injured for them...any way, he's a great guy, glad he's back...

Great to see Fraser back. Fodders will do well to end up being anywhere near as good as he was back in the day; he's made a great start and will benefit from Fraser's coaching.

Andy has some health problems since taking over the Plough from Roger Smart. It's a pity the football union are only seen to support high profile players like gazza, all ex-players should be given help to adapt to life after football.
