MARLBOROUGH failed to make up much ground in the battle to avoid the drop from the Davis Wood League Championship, picking up just one point from their two weekend matches.

The point came from Saturday’s 4-4 draw at Team Bath Buccs B, but it could have been better for the visitors, who led 4-0 early in the second half.

Striker Matt Osborne and then Dave Webster scored goals and it became 3-0 with of a Chris Jones drag-flick.

As Bath pressed on after the break, John Bromley’s sublime reverse-stick shot brought the fourth goal.

Reduced in numbers by sin-binnings in the second period, Marlborough saw their hosts fight back and secure a point.

Sunday’s long trip to Truro yielded little reward for the Wiltshire side, who were beaten 7-2, Osborne and Anil Sud scoring.

  •  MARLBOROUGH B boosted their East Central One survival bid with a 5-1 win over fellow strugglers West Wilts C.

A diving shot by Steve Bishop gave them the lead, before Tom Gray tapped in after a well-worked move.

West Wilts pulled a goal back but in the second half, Gareth Playfair twice, Alex Blair completed the scoring.

  • Devizes made up some ground on runaway Central Two leaders Robinsons B, despite a win and a defeat at the weekend.

They cruised to a 4-0 victory over Bristol University C on Saturday After the opening goal was defelected in, Roger Edwards scored with strike into the corner from a short corner, before Ollie Smith flicked into the net.

Devizes managed to get another on the break through Charlie Coleman.

On Sunday, Devizes lost 3-2 to Old Bristolians A.
