Piccareta dedicates Tranmere win to Paolo
6:00am Wednesday 20th February 2013 in Sport By Sam Morshead
Paolo Di Canio
FABRIZIO Piccareta was quick to dedicate last night’s dramatic 3-1 victory at Tranmere, which took Town top of League One, to former manager Paolo Di Canio.
Piccareta was in charge of the game after Di Canio quit the club on Monday evening, and winger Gary Roberts fired in a shot from inside his own half deep in stoppage time to move Swindon to the top of the pile.
Along with Piccareta the whole of Di Canio’s backroom staff will resign from their positions at the County Ground this morning, but speaking after last night’s game, the former assistant was full of praise for his boss before he left.
“I want to highlight that this achievement is Paolo Di Canio’s, the people must know until five in the afternoon yesterday we were together preparing this game in the best professional way. He talked to us and I want to stress this point,” he said.
“He looked after the team and the players until yesterday, and the win and the way they performed was Paolo Di Canio’s work.
“Now we leave the team top of League One, and it is the product of what Paolo Di Canio and the team and the technical staff have done in the last two years.
“I spoke to Paolo because he rung to congratulate us and the players, and he is happy what his team achieved.
“From tomorrow I don’t know what is going on at Swindon Town Football Club, but this was a very important moment to say thanks to the fans. They are amazing.
“Also too our players who are highly professional, and this is a victory and achievement of Paolo Di Canio his staff and his players. This is what I want to tell and stress.”

Agree with Steve, yes, Paolo was a breath of fresh air for our club, yes, it is sad he has gone especially in the circumstances, but we'll all support our club, through thick and thin and even when he is gone. He's laid down and left some good foundations and hopefully good mindsets in the players which will hopefully continue, especially fitness.
We've definitely had worse times in the history of Swindon Town, so let's just appreciate that!

BUT...
over the last few hours I've got annoyed. Annoyed that he's left us in the lurch. Annoyed he rightly talks of broken promises and owners running away, yet does exactly the same by turning his back on his (allegedly breached) contract and running away himself.
He's left every fan, every remaining staff member and every player in the brown stuff at exactly the wrong time.
We don't know what is going on at STFC. Maybe there is even more to this mess of a takeover than meets the eye.
For now PDC to me is PDC the brilliant winner. PDC the motivator. PDC the ultimate dedicated manager, but also PDC the quitter.

PDC has bailed out when the pressure increased & he didn't get his own way.
Even West Ham won't say "yes" to everything!
Paolo might have achieved consecutive promotions but we'll never know because he quit.
Thanks to him for what he did but I thought he had the character to see it through.

The last 1 1/2 years will long live in the memory. Di Canio was IMHO the best manager we have had for, well, since Hoddle. Despite his spending, his tantrums and volatility he got the buy in of nearly everyone involved at this club. He is a winner. Brilliant. Thanks and good luck. Before I just felt very sad. Sad for myself (selfish) and sad for the rest of the fans and our beloved Club at this ongoing saga which has made us a laughing stock yet again.
Last night I had real tears rolling down my cheeks when that 3rd goal went in.
We were top against all odds. Fabrizio had steadied the ship. The lads had done there stuff and there was a hope, just a glimmer of a hope that Paolo might re consider.
Then came the crushing announcement which brought the whole thing into reality.
Today I feel anger. I mean real anger at what has been allowed to happen, and not for the first time at the CG. Why? Egos it seems to me. Peoples egos.
Once again the loyal Town Fans who have put up with so much over the years are the ones left behind to pick up the bits. Expected to scrimp and save to stump up for season tickets again while those who are culpable for this mess just walk away.
THANKS - THANKS FOR NOTHING IN THE END!

Give Ward and Ferry acting manager roles alongside Bodin as a temporary measure and let's gain revenge for that 4-1 defeat earlier in the season.
.
One step at a time but come on lads... this is now for YOU!!!

What's next for this lunatic club of ours?
Thank you for the memories, Paolo, but we move on, and Saturday is the opportunity to show the players how much we appreciate them. They grew a few inches last night as they rose above all the crap. Time to sign their names now.

A HUGE well done to the players for a fantastic result.

Of course the players deserve credit but so does Paolo and his backroom team, as Piccareta states in the article.
Paolo is the reason the team are playing as well as they are. His players, his training regime, his tactics, his professionalism, his pride and his passion. Make no mistake, money or not, we wouldn't be where we are if it wasn't for him and his staff.
Credit where it's due.
Thankyou Paolo, your staff and the team you've left us with. I'm sure you've instilled the passion and professionalism in the team that will see us over the line this year.

The plan changed, player sold behind his back, no board etc.
On another issue those players should be proud last night they played for the shirt and fans.
It felt really strange last night. A little subdued in the pub before the game, then the typical banter as always that you expect from Swindon fans. (Ken Beamish was driving the coach and Andy King collecting the tickets). Paul Hart was seen at the CG......Its the fans that get you through it.
Then the game. It distracted the mind from the "shambles" that we have endured recently and boy was that much needed.
Last 5 minutes was fantastic. Before Roberts goal they nearly scored an own goal when the keeper was in no mans land and Roberts "delivered" with the keeper chasing back after pushing up in our area.
To the fellow Supporters last night .....thanks as you gave me the reason why I love this Club......Great support last night. Only one PDC chant and then everything was about the Club.
Thank you.
Special praise to Robbo. You done it last night and that is why you got the praise you deserved. First goal....Fantastic.

You need someone like Bodin as he could sort out a couple of loanees IF the board sanction the takeover

I am afraid that there is now one word on his CV that stands out in bold type, from all the other words - "QUITTER".
A huge 'well done' to everyone who made it to Tranmere last night. You guys are great. Sadly, I didn't go but it was only the fourth game I have missed this season.

Because a player was sold behind your back to keep the club going with the transfer money it brought in? And then demand a takeover in place by giving a 5pm deadline? This is the FL you were trying to play games with, there was only going to be one winner. You gave us as fans some wonderful times, fun and attractive football that other clubs could only dream of, but now instead of leading your troops into the final battle, you decide to do a runner and leave them to another manager to take them up and get the glory. We as town fans will carry on supporting our team regardless of who the new manager will be, and continue to put our hard earned money into the club we love. Thanks for all you have done and how far you have taken us, but i would have hoped you had stayed to see out the job you started Good luck to you and your staff to whichever club you go to.
I can't believe people are turning on Paolo when they have absolutely no idea of what caused him to leave.

I'm so sorry the way that Di Canio has thrown his toys out of the pram and has left the club at a critical time, especially as he kept spouting the word "loyalty and such words in his rants", well man you really have proved to be a fine example and a hypocrite. And now his backroom mob have decided to become turncoats too, it smacks of "we musn't annoy our master" as we will enjoy Leeds , West Ham etc etc . What a pathetic ending, from one Italian to the Italian mob leaving, Thanks for what you have done the last season and a half great times, but GOOD RIDDENCE!!!! as us supporters who have been loyal and be shown loyalty and not pampered prima donnas who think that the world revolves just around them. I feel so strongly about this type of ending, I wish I could have told Di Canio and his backroom staff face to face "either in English or Italian" how I and many others feel. especially as they have kicked us supporters up the backside.
And as for this takeover business, what a joke!!!! Every day a new problem "when we get to hear about it". Excuse after excuse, I begining to think that hierachy who run the football league and STFC, should rename themselves Billy Smarts Circus as it would be a more apt name.

He has done all the things you say and we will all appreciate it, if not now then in the future when the raw emotions have subsided. The best compliment I can give him is that I'd dance round the office with joy if he changed his mind (he won't, just emphasising things).
It doesn't stop my frustration and yes, a tiny bit of anger, at the timing of it all. I really thought we were all in it together until the end of the season.
Somehow I forgot while he gives his all, more than any manager, he is just doing job.
And yes the facts aren't known. So I reserve my right to change how I feel about everything if they ever are!
Hey ho, its done. We move on.

- Denial
- Anger
- Acceptance
.
I was in denial last night in so far as he'll be back IF the FL ratify the deal - after all we do owe a huge vote of thanks to him and his team for their part in the current resurgence of STFC as there can be no doubting all of the positives they've brought
.
I'm now verging on the anger, as many have said we've been jilted, dumped, left on the doorstep and by the one person / team who preached loyalty to a cause, the team and to us the fans. That loyalty does not stack up against the current actions, wait until the new board get in before resigning, don't desert a shop taking on water, especially when it is the QE2 following a refit and upgrade and in the best state for years...
.
...and don't take the rest of the officers with you!
.
Now we have luietenant Bodin, 2nd luietenant Ward and Bosun Ferry to steer us into port....and they can do it with the full commitment of the rest of the crew!

Paolo was fun and did a lot, time to move on. We're top, we have a great team, fabulous fans and half the unemployed managers in the universe want to manage us. And we're Swindon Town!
Let's get a good one to steer us to the Championship and beyond..
