Fabrizio Piccareta steered Swindon Town to the top of League One this evening, and then afterwards revealed he and the rest of Paolo Di Canio's technical staff would be resigning their positions tomorrow morning.

FABRIZIO PICCARETA

“After this fantastic game this is our last game as a technical staff at Swindon Town," he said.

“I want to highlight that this achievement is Paolo Di Canio, the people must know until five in the afternoon yesterday we were together preparing this game in the best professional way. He talked to us and I want to stress this point.

“He looked after the team and the players until yesterday, and the win and the way they performed was Paolo Di Canio’s work.

“Now we leave the team top of League One, and it is the product of Paolo Di Canio and the team and the technical staff have done in the last two years.

“I spoke to Paolo because he rung to congratulate us and the players, and he is happy what his team achieved.

“From tomorrow I don’t know what is going on at Swindon Town Football Club, but this was a very important moment to say thanks to the fans. They are amazing.

“Also too our players who are highly professional, and this is a victory and achievement of Paolo DI Canio his staff and his players. This is what I want to tell and stress.

“If he wants he will speak in the future about his position.

“Tomorrow morning (Wednesday) as a team, we are a team as a technical staff, myself Claudio Donatelli, Domenico Doardo and the physios, we will resign because we are here for Paolo Di Canio. We will follow Paolo Di Canio everywhere even if he coaches Real Madrid or Luton Town.

“We are a team and we have shown in this two years that if you have a strong team, you can achieve this fantastic achievement.

“Nobody can expect Swindon Town Football Club at this point of the season, top of the league.
“Swindon gave us a lot, but we gave a lot as well to the club.”

9:40pm

9:37pm

89 minutes: McEveley fails to clear the danger with a header straight up in the air, but as Bell-Baggie  gets in behind he wastes the chance with a poor cross. Three minutes added.

9:35pm

87 minutes: Tranmere win a free-kick and swing it into the box, and Michael Kay heads over.

9:34pm

We are back underway again.

8:49pm

The Town players are back with us

8:37pm

8:33pm

HALF-TIME: Tranmere Rovers 0 Swindon Town 0

8:31pm

43 minutes: McCormack sends in a low cross, which Collins does well to reach but heads wide. Two minutes added.

8:31pm

42 minutes: Cole Stockton fires a vicious effort over the bar.

8:30pm

40 minutes: The ball comes out to Donervorn Daniels from a corner, and he shoots well wide.

8:25pm

8:25pm

Town are getting the ball into the front two really well and have made some decent chances, with Tranmere looking very short on confidence. Apart from Andy Robinson that is, who is always confident.

8:19pm

31 minutes: Another chance comes Collins’ way as he twists inside the Tranmere box, and this time he sees his shot saved by Fon Williams.

8:18pm

30 minutes: Ward flicks the ball on for Collins following a corner, but the striker turns and shoots over.

8:16pm

28 minutes: Robinson wins a corner of Alan McCormack, but Aden Flint rises to clear the set-piece.

8:13pm

SUBSTITUTION: Andy Williams replaces Miles Storey (25).

8:12pm

24 minutes: Storey’s hamstring appears to go, and a promising evening looks like it is coming to an end.

8:11pm

23 minutes: Miller chips a ball into the box which Fon Williams and Bakayogo completely misjudge and collide with each other, but after the ball falls to the feet of Collins he can only drag wide.

8:10pm

22 minutes: After a Roberts cross is cleared Miller sends a shot back in, but it is deflected which allows Storey to pounce, but the young forward can only poke wide.

8:08pm

20 minutes: A moment of panic inside the Town box as Jay McEveley heads a cross up in the air which Foderingham should really have come and claimed. He didn’t, and Ward is forced to head clear.

8:05pm

17 minutes: Town win two quick corners, and from the second Ferry chips over the bar.

8:04pm

16 minutes: Andy Robinson twists and turns on the edge of the box, but when he does get a shot off, it goes high over Wes Foderingham’s bar.

8:03pm

15 minutes: David Amoo wriggles free down the right, but balloons his cross into the stand.

8:01pm

13 minutes: A good touch round the corner from Tommy Miller allows De Vita to free Collins, and the striker gets in a good shot which is saved by Fon Williams.

7:59pm

11 minutes: Tranmere win a free-kick wide on the right, but can’t make anything of it as Gary Roberts does well to clear.

7:57pm

Piccareta has yet to get out of his seat. What a contrast.

7:56pm

Eight minutes: Storey wins another corner, but again it is clawed away by Fon Williams. The young striker is looking a good outlet already.

7:54pm

Six minutes: James Collins gets a shot off, which is easily pushed away by Fon Williams.

7:54pm

The first chants of 'Paolo Di Canio' come up from the Town fans, quickly followed by 'come back Di Canio.'

7:50pm

Two minutes: Miles Storey wins a corner, which is punched clear by Owain Fon Williams.

7:48pm

One minute: Tranmere go forward with the first attack of the game, but they are caught offside.

CAPTAINCY

Simon Ferry captains Town this evening, even though Alan McCormack starts at right-back.

The Advertiser understands McCormack was stripped of the armband by Paolo Di Canio having missed a training session on Saturday morning due to illness. It is thought the Irishman attended an appointment with the doctor to avoid passing a virus onto the rest of the squad.

McCormack becomes the third player to be stripped of the captaincy by Di Canio, following Oliver Risser and Paul Caddis.

Former Luton and Grimsby boss Mike Newell is the favourite with a number of book makers to take over from Di Canio, with odds as short as 11/4.

Mike Newell

MIKE NEWELL

The Mirror ran a story on February 6 claiming the incoming owners, led by Jed McCrory, were planning on sacking Di Canio and bringing in Newell in his place.

McCrory quickly contacted the Advertiser, breaking the terms of the non-disclosure agreement covering the takeover of the club, to reassure fans this was not their plan and rubbish the Mirror's story.

Fabrizio will be in charge this evening, but we do not expect him to remain at the club long-term.

12:40pm

Of course, thoughts have quickly turned to who will replace Di Canio in the County Ground hot seat.

The bookmakers can't seem to agree at this moment in time with odds all over the place, but here are some leading contenders.

Odds taken from skybet

  • Mike Newell 11/4
  • Dave Hockaday 7/2
  • Fabrizio Piccareta 5/1
  • Paul Bodin 5/1
  • Nigel Adkins 12/1
  • Phil Brown 16/1
  • Glenn Hoddle 20/1
  • Nicky Barmby 20/1
  • Mark Hughes 20/1
  • Paul Jewell 20/1
  • Paul Dickov 20/1
  • Gary Megson 20/1

Steven Pressley does not appear on the Skybet odds, but is 5/2 favourite on BetVictor.

Whilst I can't fault PDC for walking, I would have thought he would've stayed to see the job out & perhaps get another promotion on his CV, however it's his choice. Would like to see us win tonight (an ugly 1-0 would suffice) & go top, then appoint Nigel Adkins if he's interested, & Being brutally honest we are where we are with the players we have now (minus Ritchie) so with a couple of additions, my opinion is, any manager will be able to see that we have promotion within our grasp & what manager wouldn't want that on his CV, ok, it might not come to that but we have got to be in with a bloody good shout.

12:30pm

Di Canio was left frustrated after he was not able to bring in Marlon Pack, Danny Green and Bradley Wright-Phillips following the sale of Matt Ritchie.

The Football League were not willing to sanction the deals due to the ongoing takeover of the club, and last night they were all closing to breaking down completely.

Bradley Wright-Phillips

BRADLEY WRIGHT-PHILLIPS

As exclusively revealed by the Adver this morning, striker Wright-Phillips has now joined Brentford on loan from Charlton.

12:24pm

Swindon Town Football Club also released a statement last night.

Yeovil Town first meet Swindon Town on Saturday, September 12, at Huish Park

It read: "The Board are disappointed that Paolo Di Canio has made the decision to resign at such a critical time for Swindon Town Football Club.

"We are also disappointed that the sale of the Club has yet to be approved, but we hope the outstanding issues with the Football League will be resolved within a short period of time.

"It is worth noting that Matt Ritchie was sold due to the tremendous financial pressure the Club is facing and in order to continue operating whilst the sale of the Club went through. We understand the prospective new owners had reached agreement with Paolo Di Canio on bringing in loan players to strengthen the squad for a final push for the Championship.

"Until the situation has been resolved, Fabrizio Piccareta will be in temporary charge of the team as we travel to Tranmere Rovers tomorrow, where a win would see Swindon become leaders of League One. The Board shares the fans' tremendous frustration at the events of the last few weeks and is determined to resolve these issues to ensure the best outcome for the Club."

12:22pm

Di Canio made his resignation public in a statement sent exclusively to the Advertiser last night.

Town boss Paolo Di Canio

PAOLO DI CANIO

"As I had previously stated, there have been a number of broken promises made by the club over the time that I have been Manager of Swindon Town. Despite these problems, I have delivered everything and more that was asked of me, by achieving promotion last year as Champions and competing this season for promotion to the Championship and being just 3 points from top place a year earlier than expected."

PAOLO DI CANIO

The Italian cited broken promises for his reason for leaving, most notably the sale of Matt Ritchie without his knowledge at the end of the January transfer window.

The departure of Di Canio has sent shockwaves across the club and the town as a whole, after the former West Ham striker re-energised the Robins following his arrival in May 2011, leading them to the League Two title in his first season.

Town travel to Tranmere this evening for a game which, if they win, would see them move to the top of the League One table.

Di Canio's assistant Fabrizio Piccareta takes charge of the first team this evening.

This man although it seems he is regrettably gone will always divide opinion.

Unthinkable results like Stoke away on one hand and the debacle against Oxford so many times on the other. The promise of an all out effort against the Pox, then fields a bunch of new comers on the other hand.

Winning the L2, a trip to Wembley will always be well remembered as will the signing of the megga failure that was Magera. then we had Caniogate with the players, while the mourning and sad loss of both parents while he was with us, and we also felt his pain and his hurting and his grief, many of us have been there first hand yet his profound professionalism during this period was also memorable for being equal and above the task at hand.

Give us a wave, and he did, give us a smile and he did, give us back some pride, and he did. Put some sense into this club and he did. Clear the snow and call on the supporters to help, inspired, he was.

Signings of the likes of Fodders, the insight to elevate Thompson, bring in Storey, play the best and most attractive football seen for years, ditch the booze culture, give players pride and make them not only fight, but make them proud to wear the shirt.

Yes he did all that and more, not his fault the world had a financial meltdown. Perhaps if Black had sat him down a year ago things would be different today, ah yes hindsight, worth millions, AFTER the event, but never before.

Sam, All.

There are so many facets to this whole unfolding story it is difficult to know where to begin. In fact there must be a dozen beginnings.

Was Paolo right to walk? It is his right, but the timing is wrong for sure.

I can understand why he waliked, especially after the Ritchie sale fiasco. How any employer can treat a manager like that is beyond me.

To be honest I expected Paolo to quit after JW got the sack. There's another story in of itself.

Do I have any faith in the in coming board? None at the moment. I also have gone on the record many times to express my fear that this isn't the real deal. Maybe Di Canio feels the same.

Do I think they have 'real' money. No, or they would have fronted up some to keep the manager and to keep Ritchie at the C.G.

As I said far to many questions for this space.

ps. STILL no news of the 'rubber stamp' from the FL?

When you buy a company you normally value that company based upon its assets. With our arguably "most valuable" player sold and PDC now leaving the concern must be now that the prospective purchasers pull out of the deal on the basis that the assets / value of the club is significantly different now to it was then, which either means a renegotiation of the sale or worse case administration

Firstly the timing of the resignation is very poor, being as it is on the eve of such a big game, certainly Paolo did not show the level of professionalism I have come to expect. Otherwise he was very right to leave given nobody at the club bothers to let him know what is going on, especially the Matt Ritchie situation.
As to who should replace him, I would like to see Nigel Adkin - however nobody can replace Paolo, that is for certain, he will always be a legend among supporters, if not the hierarcy within the club.
Any thought about promotion have gone in a flash!
For a while messrs Fitton and Wray brought professionalism to Swindon Town FC, now we are back to smock screens and broken promises that make our great club a laughing stock once more.

First of all Louis why are you assuming the takeover will not be ratified and we will go into Administration? Do you know something the rest of us dont? You always seem to assume the worst and that the end of the world is approaching for us Swindon fans...try being a bit more optimistic and less dramatic M8!

Secondly, i havent posted yet about Paolo resigning, but instead chose to ponder why he made this decision? So the takeover was not ratified by 5pm yesterday evening, if it had been Paolo implied he would have stayed for maybe another 18 months? I just cant see the logic of that at all, if the takeover is ratified today as the Adver implies then whats the big deal about waiting an extra 24 hours? Something not right here so maybe there is lots we dont know, but i am as gutted as the rest of you about this and wished he had stayed with us! But...this is not the first time he has threatened to leave so it comes as no surprise.

In the absence of further information i feel let down by Paolo's decision to leave when we are still in with a great shout of promotion this season, we are now at the business end of the season and anything is possible, he should have at least stayed until the end of this season in only out of loyalty to us fans who have backed him 100% all the way. He has also lost the opportunity to have 2 back to back promotions on his CV, he now looks like a quitter when the chips are down, and i agree with one of the above posters who said he has cut off his nose to spite his face.

Anyway we are Swindon so we are used to catastrophies...but i would like to wish Paolo the best of luck in whatever he does and he will always be very fondly remembered in Wiltshire.

Clear the snow and call on the supporters to help, inspired, he was. Perhaps if Black had sat him down a year ago things would be different today, ah yes hindsight, worth millions, AFTER the event, but never before.
Wiz, an excellent synopsis and well said. The posts on all the threads, twitter, facebook, all has gone into melt down - so it seems.

As it stands, we all need to calm down, not hold our breath but do what STFC fans have been doing for so long. Suffer the wait and see what comes to fruition.

Four things today please:

1) I hope that we have the announcement today that the FL have approved everything. That will be the first drop of oil to calm the troubled waters.

2) Once that is out in the open, Jed and team, please publish your plans and aspirations for the future and include your willingness to ensure the financial security for the club.

3) Sort out the management issue ASAP. Either get PDC back in and fully supported or find us a good strong manager who can carry on the good work. No half options or cheap alternatives. Look where we are now, downwards is not an option.

4) 3 points tonight please. Come the team - you have shown you are professional and capable and can deliver. A win tonight shows your mettle, respect to PDC for what he has done for you and us and shows intent to the League we are not going anywhere but up.

I am STFC and loyal. I will be there this week, next week, next month and next season. We the fans are STFC. That is all.

Nuff said.

Whingeing and moaning is not going to help, we need to move on and quickly!. Wizard's post really sums things up quite accurately.

Tonight's game was always going to be a tough one even if PDC would have been travelling with the squad, so do not be heavily disappointed if we lose. It will be interesting to see how the STFC players react to PDC's departure?

It will be very hard to prise the likes of Martin Allen or Uwe Rosler away from successfull season going clubs. Martin Ling is out of the equation for sad reasons and the likes of Nigel Adkins may not find STFC attractive enough.

The board will probably try and get a big name as other past boards have done, but maybe an old head similar to the likes of Graham Turner at Shrewsbury - tough on the training ground but quiet to the press :-)

Dietmar Hamann with Michael Owen might be a good double act. I am not really sure and will be interesting to see what others think?

As a player, Brown was a right-back who made over six hundred league appearances in an eighteen-year career, but never made it to the top flight. However, as a manager, he became the first to lead Hull City to the top division in their 104-year history, winning the Championship play-offs in 2008 after a 1–0 win against Bristol City at Wembley.

If Piccarreta wants the top job give it as no other manager knows how STFC tick and would only pull apart the great, yes great work that the Italians have done over the past season and half, the training methods, eating habits, mental approach etc... nice to see players doing what they are told and not what their agents think they ought to be doing and even better that the players want to and accept that the Italian way is the best way....just look at our position and the way that we can play with speed, skill and passion. The passion then translates to the terraces where you and I support our team. Calling cry to get behind the new manager even if stand-in and show our support, Di Canio's gone so todays a new day and perhaps Piccarreta can saviour that feeling of being a manager of the League 1 champions 2012/13!ndon

Super reds, I am not sure anyone has said that they know he won't take the job, but in my view I think he would be able to command a better job than at Swindon.

He has just been harshly sacked after doing a pretty good job for a premiership team and so feel that he should be looking at a top half championship / bottom half premiership job.

Given that Jed McCrory and his mates have no real wealth compared to Andrew Black and Sir Arbib, I feel we need to reduce our expectations on who our new manager will be. I think Paul Buckle or someone of that ilk is more likely than Nigel Adkins. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm usually right.

Pewsham,

Dave Bassett eh ?????, I knew his mate Bertie and they lived in Wootton, LOL.

I do think we can seriously kiss good-bye to the likes of any ideas on Adkins, Brown etc, much further up the ladder than to come here and work for a much publicized wonky management team with little or no experience, Roy Rogers usually works with cowboys. Like attracts like, which is how Wray( totally professional) secured the services of PDC. Alan Irvine ? you have to be joking. If Newall comes in many supporters will not, they will shy away until he is gone, and the gate receipts will crash quickly bringing the club down with them.
Fabio will go when his master clicks his fingers, at best we have them for a couple of weeks. Bodin, lovely bloke but not the cutting edge that our players will respond to.
Big conundrum remains, Jed not yet in charge, and it seems he has already lost the clubs crown jewel. My big question is why did some of the paperwork have to be re submitted, what was wrong the first time, and once more I ask, what are the players tweeting, no news from that direction either ?????

As I commented on in a previous post, the club are in a mess and as someone else quoted , " we aint got a pot to pi55 in " All this talk of Nigel Adkins , you honestly think he would come here ? As for my choice of new manager ? on current form and being able to motorvate players for a big game , for me it woulde be Phil Parkingson , he has done an amazing job getting Bradford to the cup final , and lets face it every game now is going to be like a cup game. My other choice would be Gary johnson from yeovil , again has done a fantastic job on a small budget.

If there is no money then we sure as ever won't be buying up the contract of a Manager who us already employed, so that knocks out quite a few of the ideas floated on here, including Gary Johnson (who, incidentally, has only ever succeeded at Yeovil) and Phil Parkinson, whose side has lost almost more League 2 games in 2013 than STFC have lost all season!!

No doubt about it, Adkins would be my favourite, but a) would he drop back to League 1, albeit hopefully for just a few months until we get promoted, and b) would our new Board stump up the necessary wages to get him?

It would be one hell of a coup but for me it is just not going to happen. A new Manager on the cheap is what I'm expecting. All we can hope is that he can scrape us over the finish line and we regroup for next season.

I dont know anything buddy...

Agreed unpcah, but for the past three weeks we've been hearing 'it should be tomorrow' ' ought to be a few days' 'we understand the deal will be ratified the end of the week' and yet still nothing.

No wonder Paolo gave a deadline.

Does anyone know if the lack of FL ratification means we can't appoint a new manager? Although I suspect no manager would want to sign up until the deal has been completed anyway.

it will be straight into administration. Jed and his crew have to prove they have the funds to take the club through not only this period but next season, that's not been the case despite black helping them out as if to say with write offs etc. its not all black and white and the fl have every right to protect STFC, wouldn't want another portsmouth would they. It's simply the funding element that is the problems, nothing to do with Jed and his other interests. Things at swindon are not as rosey as the board like to make out, mr b has done his best to wash his hands and try and hand a mess over, the FL are protecting the club at the moment. As for PDC, it could happen, he could be tempted back, but he knows that this mess isn't going to be sorted today, tomorrow or in a week at this rate. They are borrowing so much to take over the club, there isn't the planning to how this club will survive with so much debt. that's all i am saying, as I said in my first original post, this club will be put under massive financial problems should the take over go ahead in its current form. stand by for some help now with a certain (current) owner joining the group Not saying names! Jed does want PDC, PDC is in two minds, he has possibilities but he is sick of this mess and lies. Can't blame him. If the new owners can pursade the FL that they can repay the debts and run the club (in at least break even status) it would get the approval (although the takeover) should only be granted should the funds cover the take over and running of the club. It's not black and white, where the funds are coming from to run the club haven't been proven. PDC knows it could fall apart and players will be sold left right and centre, or the owners take over and players have to be sold to balance the books.

Mr B puts club up for sale and sells PDC's favourite toy . PDC not to be outdone waits until the 23 rd hour then resigns , making the consortium loose the only assett left at the club , so consortium get cold feet and is now in two minds , which means Mr B is left holding the baby (again) , PDC walks out with two fingers in the air , get out of that one , nobody can mess with the Italian Inquisition . There could be two good reasons for the Football League taking their time: the obvious one is the need to protect the club and the other one is that they are giving the prospective owners as much time as they need to get everything right. Whatever their reasons, I can't see why any Town fan should object. I suppose the League could just say yes or no without looking at it properly. Who would be happy with either?

I've asked for all Personal Information to be omitted.

There is no reason why they (FL) cannot disclose why the delay has occured. and that would stop alot of Football League fans being confused and left in limbo.

Please help us if you can mate.

Personally, providing he can prove his worth over the next couple of days, i'd be more than happy to see Picaretta as the new manager. I couldn't think of anyone better. He's already acustomed to the set-up and running of the team, a team that is currently one win from top spot.

At least until the end of the season anyway.. let's not make any quick, rash decisions and appoint Mike Newell.

I am happy for the swindon advertiser to confirm I am not from the same address as Gov, (also ignore my name) I am not that person or any relation, that's honest.

I have been reading for weeks now all of your posts.

I do know some info but I cannot post it here. No one really can, however, it does appear to me that someone involved is spilling beans, it's stuff I am aware of.

Like many businesses there is a Need to know and a What you will know, you will never know the full in and outs of what's happening.

FL would never spill beans to anyone in email, otherwise surely the Advertiser would of done this several weeks ago.

What I have heard is the reason this deal is being stalled does have something to do with Gov's posting, but I have heard (which I will say could be wrong) so treat it as if it is, that Mr Black is financing the take over, via a loan?

Now I maybe totally 100% wrong! That's what I have heard.

Personally I think all this talk about when the FL will ratify the takeover is just made up by the media. I cannot imagine the FL have given all these promises for when the process will be completed and then broken them. It is more than probable that the FL have said it takes as long as it takes - I also believe the FL have more than STFC to concern themselves with, as I expect there are quite a few clubs who are teetering on the brink at the moment.
As for PDC his time here was great, he had a charisma rarely seen in football managers and was passionate in his beliefs. On the downside he was extremely assertive in his demands which up until last year were by and large met, then the wheels fell off and Black pulled the plug. Did Black sit down and discuss the situation with PDC - I doubt it. The trouble with money men is they are a law unto themselves and do as they please and if that upsets a few along the way tough, my guess is this is how AB treated PDC and PDC didn't like it and eventually walked.
As for a new manager personally Paul Scholes would be my shout.

So you draw your own conclusions mate....
worryingly the Guv may have hit the nail on the head this time, I can see no reason for all these delays unless it 's financial.

Louis, the difference between 2008 and now is that the FL have alot more stringent test in place regarding how a club is financed, especially if it's loans that are being taken out with the club as collateral.

At least until the end of the season anyway.. let's not make any quick, rash decisions and appoint Mike Newell.
Hi Buddy,

I think if Paolo, his close friend leaves...you may find that the entire support staff that Paolo himself brought in will leave too.

Good post Tomcat. As regards Black, I don't think he ever wanted any sort of "hands on" role. We hardly heard anything about him until a few months ago, when we found out that he was funding the club's losses on his own. Did I read somewhere that he even had a proxy attend many board meetings in his place? Fitton, Wray and latterly Patey were appointed to do the communicating for him. Enough has already been said about their styles and levels of communication. I don't think I need to add anything to that.

Something is not right here at all as the FL would have given the thumbs up by now. I'm not convinced this new lot have the funds and i cant see the takeover happenning.
This whole fiasco is an absolute joke they have treated the fans and the manager and players with the utmost contempt.

They call theirselves business men black and patey and the new consortium well to me they are all total amateurs. I wouldnt be surprised if they have let it stew a bit longer to wind Paolo up so he leaves and get some second rate manager in and if someone like Newell comes in no way will i be there supporting the team . when was he last involved in football but if Jed wants him for Banbury then take him. If our club is going to be run on the cheap then Jed the crowds will go down not up.
I dont like anything im hearing at the moment and i can see the team losing tonight and saturday and a slide down the table. I hope im totally wrong but this smells all wrong to me and i m not convinced this new lot have the vision or money to progress this club.

Luton Town boss Paul Buckle has left the club by mutual consent for unspecified personal reasons.

The 42-year-old, who has been at Kenilworth Road for less than a year, led the Hatters to an FA Cup victory over Premier League Norwich last month.

They are eighth in the Blue Square Bet Premier and face Macclesfield on Tuesday night without a manager.

We are accustmed to complete transparency in all dealings and the fact that Black decided to pull the plug when the transfer window opened and all of the players were for sale, was an honest and understandable coincidence.
Thankfully our club do not exploit us in terms of entrance fee or the cost of refreshments and our programme is the cheapest in the league. The same commitment and honesty was not in evidence with our departed manager and his lack of expertise, charisma and

He doesn't fit the profile of an 'experienced' manager to come in until the end of the season for me - If we have genuine ambitions of Championship football then we need to go for a man with Championship experience. We are an attractive proposition at the moment and a few wins away from promotion - Most managers will be interested in b

As you have been on here most of today now, I trust that the other 1199 sevice personnel at Catterick Barracks are not doing the same.

If the Russians invade tonight, who will be available to protect us? You could at least keep them at bay until after the match please Louis?

If it were not for for fans then there would be NO football and NO clubs .
Sick of this continueing fiasco,
No wonder PDC quit this madness..dealing with all the prats that run fooball is beyond any joke.
Admire the passion of PDC ..HATE the bul.s.t from everyone else concerned with this ongoing joke.

As for PDC his time here was great, he had a charisma rarely seen in football managers and was passionate in his beliefs. Good post Tomcat. As regards Black, I don't think he ever wanted any sort of "hands on" role. PDC quit over 'broken promises', I think I'm going to quit the Adver over the same. Sick to death of hearing takeover to be completed next week, a few days, tomorrow, today, 'insert new completely wrong timeframe' here.

Either their sources know nothing or they are actually the right people but are just stringing the Adver along with false promises like they did PDC. Either way it is ruining any credibility the Adver had for getting info to the fans

Although I understand everyone is feeling as hurt and frustrated as I am, I am a bit bemused by the number of posters having a real dig at Paolo. I don't mean folk questionning the timing, manner etc of him going, more the posters who now only appear to want to slag him off.

Yes he made some duff signings - hardly suprising for a rookie manager, however look at some of the real gems he did sign - Sir Wes, Ward, Benson, Collins etc etc.

Yes some money was wasted, however he did not set the budgets. ANY manager in the country always wants another player, more money etc for signings, wages etc. Its up to the board to set the budgets.

Yes there were some real duffers - but Fergie hardly gets them all correct - Tosic, Veron, Obertan, Taibi etc.

Yes some players were let go at the end of last season - I believe some were signed purely to get us out of the fourth division. Yes some were probably signed with Paolo knowing they could not make the step up to div 3 and that they would have to be paid off. However without the offer of a two year contract we may not have been able to attract some of the players who helped us get promotion and could therefore still have been stuck in div 4. I believe its most unlikely that we could have built a top quality div 3 team when we were still in div 4 as many of the players would simply not come that far down the leagues. Therefore what should Paolo have done? Thats not a dig at anyone, just a genuine question?

Anyway, sorry to rant, i'm still feeling really frustrated by all this when 6 weeks ago everything appeared to be rosy.

Can this get any more messy?? Probably yes - but when I win euromillions I intend to exchange that and sign the real Messi...

Tonight could be a 0-0 or we get robbed 1-0 or we score first and win 5-0 because the players have that everyone is against us mentality, if we win then we will get promotion because that is the strength of the squad!

Who is Dave Hockaday I see mentioned here? Well he was a great servant for STFC under Lou Macari for many years getting successive promotions and then suffering when we were demoted. He took over Forest Green and turned them into a feared force in the conference with very little money, they are now 2 points behind the leaders. Would do no harm in getting this man on board the STFC roller coaster. COYR's!!

Settle down Louis - believe me, Med Red is not he only one on his forum who thinks we can do a lot better than Paul Buckle. He took the Gas to the bottom of league 2 and is struggling to get Luton out of the conference.

I am all for giving the new guy a chance but if we are trawling the mid table of the conference for our new manager then we are in trouble!

Predictions for tonight:
-Piccareta to follow Paolo's lead and strip Ferry of the captaincy half way through the first half when he misplaces a pass
-Adver to make suggest a new timeframe for takeover completion (which will be missed obviously)
-1-1 draw

Alway thought Gary looked under pressure waiting for Paolo to haul him off if he made a mistake, with Pdc gone we may see some of the flair we knew he had, a little bit of confidence will do him the world of good to express himself.

Sad to hear Fab and Paolo's backroom staff are going as could have been good to keep continuity till the end of the season. Jed needs to get in asap, try to speak to PDC, if he's set on not coming back then get looking for a manager asap. Don't fancy Bodin being in charge for long

Newell wasn't at the match. You are confused or misled by a trouble maker. Again it has been said numerous times, the new lot can't do anything till the FL approve the deal, I am sure they have a plan, but from what I read they were backing PDC and he has walked, along with his team. The players are there and will continue to performs long as a decent manager is bought in...... Get behind the team on Saturday, COYR
