ANGLING: Park match is to Gilbert’s liking

COMPETITORS in Sunday’s Wilts Angling Open match on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Seend Park found fish hard to tempt.

Tony Gilbert, from Melksham, again carried off top prize with 8lb 8oz of roach, skimmers and perch.

Matt Skyrme, from Trowbridge, took runner up prize with 5lb 1oz of roach and skimmer. Steve Saunders, from Melksham, was third with 3lb 12oz of roach and skimmer.

Other placings: 4 Darren Fordham, Devizes 3lb 3oz; 5 Darren Fletcher, Melksham and Robbie Kepner, Melksham 2lb 10oz each.

AFTER recent cancellations of Calne matches, the Air Ambulance Open match was fished at Hazeland on Sunday where Simon Fear, of Calne, was a convincing winner with 10lb 4oz of chub.

Brian Pallet, from Newbury, was runner up with 6lb 6oz of chub, followed by Trevor Payne, from Corsham, with 6lb 2oz of chub, Other placings: 4 Pat Samuel, Newbury 5lb 10oz; 5 Martin Pallett, Newbury 4lb 12oz; 6 Martin Dolman, Calne 3lb 8oz.

SUNDAY’S Bob Warden Memorial Open match, fished on the Kennet & Avon Canal from Darlington Wharf to The George at Bathampton, produced an extremely close result as Steve Hutchinson, of Sensas Wilts Angling, triumphed with 6lb 9oz of roach, and skimmers.

Chris Telling, from Swindon, was just behind with 5lb 13oz of roach and perch, followed by Andy Ottaway, of Preston Innovation Thatchers, with 5lb 9oz of roach and skimmer.

Other placings: 4 Jim McMahon, Bristol 5lb 8oz; 5 Jamie Cox, Street; 5lb 7oz; 6 Darren Gillman, Maver Bathampton 5lb 6oz.
